16th April 2018
We are pleased to announce we have a new Forest School Club starting on Monday 23rd April 2018 and running throughout the Spring Term. It will take place on the school grounds and finish at 4.00 pm and children to be collected from the Marlow Road Entrance. This term the Forest School club will be open to Reception.
If your child would like to attend, please fill in the form below and return to school. The club is limited to 15 spaces and you will be informed if they have a place. Any child who is not given a place initially will be added to a reserve list and informed if a place becomes available. There is an expectation that your child will attend every week (unless absent through illness) and if two weeks are missed the space will be given to another child.
What is Forest School?
Forest School is an ethos, which encourages the development of children’s emotional and physical development through outdoor play, activities and exploration in a woodland environment. The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive experiences and participation in engaging and motivating achievable tasks and activities fostering:
Originally, a concept developed in Denmark, children attending Forest Schools were found to have developed strong social skills, the ability to work in groups effectively and generally had high esteem and confidence in their own capabilities. These attributes proved to be an effective foundation that raised academic achievements and is therefore an excellent way to support the National Curriculum and consolidate learning in the classroom.
Forest School at Whitehouse
Forest School takes place outdoors whatever the weather; however, in extreme weather conditions an alternative indoor activity will be arranged. Therefore, your child will need appropriate waterproof clothing and outdoor footwear such as wellington boots. We will undertake activities such as shelter building, bug hunting, den making, knot tying and other creative tasks. Forest School activities involve the use of tools such as potato peelers, small saws and hammers. There may also be an opportunity for the pupils to take part in an archery session. All our activities will be checked for safety and risk assessments will be carried out. There will be a fully trained Forest School instructor at all times and all staff involved in sessions will be first aid trained.
If you would like your child to take part in Forest School, then please complete the attached consent form.
