Komodo Dragons

Here are the most recent pictures of our Trebuchet making. All models now have to sides, a fully made throwing arm and are connected at the top!
Below are pictures from DT. This is the building phase of the final model. Children have cut wood at varied lengths to make one of the triangular sides that will support the throwing arm. After fitting them together, they glued all of the pieces and added cardboard triangles where the joins were to strengthen the joints.

The children have furthered their knowledge of Roman Britain by learning about Hadrian's wall. Below are some pictures showing some 'Picts' attacking the Roman defenders with 'sling shot'. You may notice the 'Romans' defending themselves using the tortoise formation!

In History, we have been learning about the Roman impact upon Britain. Recently, we dramatised Boudicca's rebellion and in particular her battlers at Camulodunum (Colchester) and then later at the battle of Watling Street. Below are some of the pictures of the Celts versus the Romans!

Acting out Boudicca's rebellion

This term, our topic is the Romans. For DT, the children have been going through initial stages of researching and designing a Roman Trebuchet, which is a war machine. Most recently, we made models out of K'nex to help evaluate our first designs. Below are some of the models we made!

Design Phase - K'nex models

Dragons had such a great day yesterday. We started the morning off by discussing suspense stories and how to write them. We watched a video by Charlie Higson to discover his top five tips to write awesome suspense stories. Following this, we got into groups and wrote some amazing stories that had us all worrying for the main characters!

In the afternoon, we shared our favourite books with each other before redesigning the front covers of the books to show a different perspective.

World Book Day fun!

In preparation for the year 3, 4 and 5 performance, the children have been given copies of the lyrics. If they have lost them, they are here as well!

Minibeasts

Have you seen a creepy crawly caterpillar munching?
Have you seen a super-spinning scuttling spider hunting?
Swooping, gliding dragonflies,
Buzzing bumblebees.
Weary wand’ring woodlice in the leaves.

Have you seen the beauty of a butterfly a-dancing?
Have you seen a troupe of busy soldier ants advancing?
Swooping, gliding dragonflies,
Buzzing bumblebees.
Weary wand’ring woodlice in the leaves.

Have you seen a wiggly worm a-wriggling and a-squirming?
Have you seen a centipede a-twisting and a-turning?
Swooping, gliding dragonflies,
Buzzing bumblebees.
Weary wand’ring woodlice in the leaves.
