12th June 2020
I hope this letter finds you well. It has been a difficult time for us all and at Whitehouse we were particularly saddened to hear the latest government guidance that we would not be able to welcome all the children back to school before September. We know that many parents are finding home schooling tricky, whereas some parents are keen to take up teaching as a profession – everyone has found their own way of coping through this pandemic. Please can I reassure you that any work you have undertaken with your child/ren will be great and right for them. When the children return to school we will do everything possible to ensure they catch up on any lost learning. In the meantime, if you have any home learning that you would like us to view or comment on, please send this by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
During this week the government stated that if schools were able to offer more child places other than Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 then they should try to. Sadly, the school cannot open for every child but we believe that it may be possible to offer spaces to Year 5 in the first instance, as they will be the next year group to complete statutory tests. We are waiting for further guidance regarding this next step.
Therefore, if you have a child in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, the last opportunity for you to secure a place for your child will be Wednesday 17th June and then these pods will be locked (no additional children added) so that we can start to extend our offer wider. If you would like any more information about how the pods are organised please let us know. The feedback we have received from parents who have decided to send their children back to school has been very positive:
‘I would just like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to all at the school for their hard work and dedication over the recent months. X returned to school today and said that he enjoyed it and felt very safe. This is very much down to a great deal of planning and I am sure has not been easy. Please pass on my thanks to all concerned’.
If you have a child in Year 5 and we are able to open further, please notify the office by email email@example.com or reply to the text that will be sent out with this letter. We do not know whether this will be a full or part time offer until we have all responses back from parents and any additional guidance from the government. Please be aware that we only hear updates from the government at the same time as parents, so we have to work very quickly to amend our plans to meet demand for places.
Please can I thank the whole school community for their continued support. These have been challenging times for us all, and many of our staff members have also had difficult times too - juggling work, home schooling, looking after relatives etc. Everyone is trying their very best through this pandemic.
