Ipswich Museum Trip – Year 6
We are writing to inform you about an exciting trip we have organised for year 6 this term, in connection with our History Topic on the Second World War. We have booked a re-creation day at Ipswich Museum on Wednesday 14th November. We will step back in time and meet all sorts of WW2 characters, dressed in costume.
Participation in costume adds greatly to the experience so we request that all children come dressed in a WW2 costume. Overleaf are some simple ideas, which may be helpful to you in finding or making an outfit. Boys could wear school trousers, a shirt, tank top and flat cap. Girls could wear a plain dress with opaque tights and a hat or beret. Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any difficulties with this.
The trip will take place during the normal school day. We will leave school at 9:30am and return by approximately 2:45pm. Your child will require a packed lunch, drink (NO GLASS BOTTLES OR FIZZY DRINKS PLEASE), and a snack. If your child is entitled to Free School Meals please indicate on the attached form if you would like us to provide a school packed lunch.
The cost per child is a voluntary contribution of £5.00, which covers coach travel and workshops. Please return the attached consent form along with this amount by 8th November. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience history ‘hands on.’
We will be
Building a model air raid shelter
Sending coded messages on the working Morse Code machine
Using real and replica Second World War objects to role-play the characters, including telephones, gas masks, ration books and clothing.
Thank you for your continued support.
