The aim of the festival was to provide a very relaxed event, which encouraged the players the opportunity to enjoy the game and to make their own decisions during the match. As a result, the games involved minimal coaching from the sidelines, and no referees! Instead both teams worked together to implement the rules of the game. The festival was well run and very much enjoyed by all. The pupils showed fantastic teamwork and effort during each of the games. As a result, the team managed to win 1, draw 2 and narrowly lose 3 of their games. At the end of the festival the girls were excited to also be provided with a mini-tour of the stadium! They played so well together, they took on board the team talks and applied them superbly.’ The team won 3 games, drew 1 and lost 1. Ms Salmon was extremely impressed with the attack and defence skills the children displayed throughout. It was a pleasure to take the children to the festival as each one of them clearly showed the ‘Whitehouse Way’. They were a credit to the school and this was commented on by one of the external coaches on the day. A special well done to Isabel who was awarded the ‘Fair Player Award’. Eventually, Gusford were able to convert one of their chances, but despite going a goal behind, the boys showed real perseverance. Throughout their games, the team impressively managed to win three of their games and draw two. Well done to Theo who received the Fair Player Award for showing a good attitude, good teamwork and fair play.

IPSSA U11's Boys Football League
On Wednesday 12th December 2018, the Year 5/6 Boys' Football Team travel to Gusford Primary School in search of their first league win of the season. The boys started the first half with some solid defence work. With some very good spells of football, and some excellent link-up play of their own, the boys put pressure on the Gusford team. Despite going a goal behind from a well worked cross, the boys showed real perseverance. The hard work paid off with a very well taken goal from Callum just before half time. The second half was played at the same high tempo as the first and another goal from Gusford was equalled by a very classy goal from Alonso. Excellent link up play between Kian and Preston allowed the team to enjoy large spells of possession throughout the second half. Kian went close to putting Whitehouse ahead with a fantastic long-range free kick, which forced a good save from the Gusford goalkeeper. Despite the boys’ fantastic teamwork and hard work, and with the light quickly fading, they were unlucky to concede two goals late on in the match, eventually losing the game 4-2. After the game, the opposition’s teacher commended the boys on their performance.

With so many pupils, competing in the same space, the atmosphere was very exciting and extremely loud as each school cheered their teams from the sidelines! Both the girls’ and boys’ teams performed superbly throughout the events, particularly on the track where both teams won a number of their races. Mr Jordan and Miss Salmon were immensely proud of their efforts and the competitiveness shown by the entire team. As a result, the team finished in an impressive 4th place, just 30 points behind the team in 3rd place. Well done to everyone who took part!

On Monday 19th November 2018, the Year 5/6 Boys' Football Team played their second league match in as many weeks again against tough opposition as they hosted last year’s league winners, Sidegate Primary School. As expected, Sidegate enjoyed large spells of possession throughout the game, however our team showed good defensive work to break down the Sidegate attacks. Despite their best efforts, and after some good passages of play of their own, the boys found themselves 2-0 down at half time. Undeterred the boys started the second half on the front foot. Their positivity and increased confidence created two very good attempts on goal from both Edi and Preston. As the light began to fade, Sidegate finished the game the stronger of the two teams and scored several times to finish the game 7-0 winners. Despite being behind throughout the game, the boys never gave up and continued to play right up to the final whistle.

Britannia scored again just before half time, making it 2- 0. The boys started the second half well and their persistence paid off with a well taken goal by Kyle. With an increase in confidence the boys piled on the pressure and went close to equalising on numerous occasions. Britannia caught the boys on the counter attack, adding 3 more goals to their tally and eventually winning the game 5- 1. Mr Jordan and Miss Horne were extremely proud of the boys’ determination to continue to work hard as a team right up to the final whistle. A very gritty performance!

The team continued to show amazing netball skills and Ms Salmon was extremely proud of the teams efforts, behaviour and perseverance throughout. Despite their best efforts, the match resulted in a 7-2 win to Dale Hall. The final result did not reflect how closely contested the match was, or how well the team played. Great effort everyone!

However a well worked through ball, set Preston on his way late on to score his second of the match and wrap up the win for Whitehouse. The boys continue their cup run by booking their place into the second round, to play the winners of either Birchwood or Gorseland Primary School. After finishing a respectful fourth in their league, the girls unfortunately did not progress to the knockout stages of the tournament.
