Welcome to the year 5 website page.
This year the year 5 teachers are Miss Dobner and Mr Hayward and they have prepared lots of interesting things to teach!
Our topic for the Spring Term 2018 is Mayans. We will learning about where the Mayans lived, what their lives were like and how religion and traditions led them to do some really gory things!
In art we are going to be creating our very own Mayan wall murals which will go on display in our classrooms.
Year 5 expectations:
Reading - children are expected to read 5 times a week and record all five in their planners with page numbers and a comment. Parents need to check the children's planners at the end of the week and sign to show they have been reading. Children need to quiz regularly and record their scores at the back of their planner. If children do not read or record their reading five times or have their planners signed by an adult, they will go to reading reflections on a Monday lunchtime.
Homework - set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday.
Presentation - in year 5 we expect children to put a lot of effort into their handwriting and presentation. We expect their books to be looked after and for them to take pride in every piece of work they complete. Children can earn certificates and pen licences if their handwriting is consistently neat and joined. If we feel children are not taking care or putting effort into their presentation, they will first have a warning. If we then do not see an improvement, children will be asked to redo or improve their work in reflections time.
PE kits - PE is on varying days throughout the year so please make sure your child has a PE kit in school every day. Black shorts, a red or white t-shirt and trainers.
