27th February 2024

Colchester Castle Trip – Year 3

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are writing to inform you about an exciting trip we have organised for year 3 in connection with our history topic ‘Who were the Romans and how did they affect life in Britain?’.  We have booked a trip to Colchester Castle on Monday the 18th March, where we be able to see examples of Roman artefacts found in the area.

On Monday the 18th March, the coach will be departing school at 9:00am and arriving back at school at approximately 3:00pm.  The children will eat their lunch in a dining room within the castle. Children will require a packed lunch, drink (no glass bottles or fizzy please) and a snack (fruit or cereal bar). If your child is entitled to Free School Meals please indicate on the attached form if you would like us to provide a packed lunch.

The children should wear their usual school uniform on the day.  Due to a shortage of storage space in the castle museum cloakroom, we are asking that children bring their lunch in a plastic carrier bag. As we will not be visiting a shop, the children should not bring any money with them.

The cost per child is a voluntary contribution of £11.00, which covers coach travel, admission and an educational workshop. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience history in their local area.

At Whitehouse, we value the importance of trips as they help the children to engage with their learning and provide opportunities for the children to deepen their understanding through first hand experiences.  Please remember that educational trips are not intended to be optional as they are part of our school curriculum.

Please note consent and payment can be made via Arbor, or alternatively please complete the attached form and return to the office with payment.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind Regards

Mr Fox, Miss Swansborough and Mrs Frost
