Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 161

Friday 16th July 2021

Message from Mrs Hall

Thank you for all the positive comments we have received regarding the annual reports. We are extremely proud of all the children and how hard they have worked to achieve their potential this year. Please return any outstanding report reply slips to the school office. Also, just a reminder that clubs have now finished for this year and I would like to thank all of the staff for giving up their time to offer these super opportunities for the children.  268 children have attended a club this term despite the Covid-19 restrictions. Furthermore, there will be a final newsletter on the last day of term announcing this year’s Governor Awards.

Summer Holiday Reading Challenge

We are pleased to let you know the Suffolk Libraries Summer Reading Challenge is back for 2021!  The theme this year is Wild World Heroes, with a group of friends making their town even better for the people and animals that live there.   The challenge will feature some amazing books, awesome rewards and plenty of ideas for taking care of our environment.  As always, the challenge is open to all children, they need to sign up, read six books over the summer holidays and collect a prize for each one from your local library.  For completing the challenge, each child will receive a certificate.  The challenge opens on Saturday 17th July.  To sign up, you just need to visit your local library.

If you would like any further information, please visit this site: https://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/whats-on/annual-events/summer-reading-challenge-2021

Year 6 Production

We are thrilled that our Year 6 children have been able to go ahead with their end of term production this year, The Pirates of the Curry Bean, on Monday 19th July.  Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the audience has had to be limited to parents/carers only.  The children have been working incredibly hard and are looking forward to showing off their wonderful talents!  A reminder that the Ocelots and Chameleons classes will have their performances at 9.00am and 4.30pm.  The Tigers and Toucans will have their performances at 11.00am and 6.30pm.

Year 3 Homework

Well done to all of our Year 3 children who have been working hard on their homework over the last half term.  Their topic was ‘Rivers’.

Advice for the Summer Holiday

Please note Suffolk Constabulary have issued some advice for parents/carers with regards to the upcoming summer holiday:

“We ask that you know where your child is, what they are doing and who they are associating with. Children should be allowed the opportunity to develop, explore and play, but this must not be at the expense of theirs and others safety and quality of life. As children do not always appreciate the risks in certain situations or fully understand the consequences of their behaviour; it is the responsibility of parents, guardians and carers to keep them safe. Remember the age of criminal responsibility is 10 years of age.”   Please see the following link for more advice:  https://www.whcps.org/07-07-2021-suffolk-police-advice-for-summer-holida/

Visitors to EYFS

EYFS curriculum enrichment has continued this week with a visit from Mr C Fisher and his tractor, which is called ‘Blue’.  He spent time with the children, telling them all about the tractor and answering all their fabulous questions.  The children wanted to know, how old it was and why it had different sized wheels!  Then as a real treat, the children were allowed onto the trailer and had a ride around the school field.  What a lot of happy, smiling, faces we saw as they went!  Thank you to both Mr Fisher and Blue.

Wildflower Meadow

You may have noticed that our flower beds at the front of the school have undergone a transformation this year, going from a rather unsightly space to a small meadow full of flowers including, cornflowers, poppies and red orache. A big thank you to Mr Hobhouse who has spent hours completing this work.  It has been wonderful seeing the children from Nursery out looking at the flowers and insects and creating some pictures of what they can see.  We have included some photos of the before and after – what a big change!

Year 4 Enquiry Projects

This week our Year 4 children completed their enquiry projects. They have all worked very hard on these over the last term to show us everything they have been learning about The Amazon Rainforest.
