Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 172

Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 172

Friday 19th November 2021

 Message from Mrs Hall

Our first virtual Parents’ Evening this week was a huge success. The staff were delighted to be able to share the great work that is happening in class and to discuss the progress your children are making. If you were unable to book an appointment this week, our teachers still have appointments available on Wednesday 24th November. All children have the right to education (article 28: children have the right to education) so it would be super to share their successes with you. Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance for last week

Class with the Best Attendance – Rabbits (99.1%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: How is the money raised as part of Children in Need used to promote the Rights of Children?  UNRC Link: Article 25: I have the right to have my living arrangements checked regularly if I have to be looked after away from home.  Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, simply go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Purple Man Reading Competition

Well done – yet again – to Tigers and Hedgehogs who have won the Purple Man competition last week.  These classes are doing so well this year, because some of the class have been quizzing on myON at home.  This is a good way of reading extra books and there are lots of books available which are not in the school library.  Why not give it a try this week!  You can find a link to it on the library page on the website: https://www.whcps.org/library/

Nut Free School

As you will be aware we have a number of children in school who have a severe allergy to nuts and nut products, so it is vital that we do not allow any of these products to come into school. Unfortunately, we are still seeing some children bring in nut products, including peanut butter and Nutella products for lunch or snack.  Can we please remind parents/carers again, that these products must NOT come into school and if staff see these items, they will need to be removed from the child.  Thank you for your support.

Thank You

A big thank you to all those of you who kindly donated to the Christmas Shoebox Appeal.  We have been able to pass over lots of gifts to the Whitehouse Baptist Church to include in the boxes they are creating which will be sent to children who do not have as much as we do.

The Whitehouse Gingerbread Bake Off

We are very pleased to introduce our latest Whitehouse Bake Off competition.  If you love baking at home, why not enter our competition to create something out of gingerbread.  It is open to children in all year groups and we look forward to seeing what you will make:  a house….a bridge…an animal….or something else?

You can find more details and a gingerbread recipe on our website: https://www.whcps.org/dt-news-20212022/

Please take a photograph of your creation and email it to Mrs Bartholomew at parents@whcps.org so we can share all the creations on our website.  The top 5 entries will each receive 5 house points. The closing date to enter will be Monday 13th December 2021.

Online Safety

Did you know that young people and parents/carers can request Google remove images from search results?    The legal ‘right to be forgotten’ has been around since 2014 but recently Google have extended this.  Now any person under the age of 18 (or their parent/carer) can fill in a form and request that one or more images are removed from Google search results.  This is good news, as there will be any reasons why a young person might want an image to be removed including embarrassing photos from when they were younger.

Please note, the removal is from search results within the UK only.  For example if someone has their image removed and a search is done on google.co.uk it will not appear.  However, it may still appear on a search through google.com.  Please follow the link if you would like to know more:  Google now lets people under 18 or their parents request to delete photos from search results – TechCrunch (ampproject.org)

Parking

Can we please remind parents/carers the need to be careful when you park your car in the vicinity of the school.  Not only do we need to ensure the safety of our children and all others who come on the school site, but it is also important to be considerate to our neighbours to ensure they can access the driveways to their homes.  We do appreciate your support in this matter.
