Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 204

Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 204

Friday 23rd September 2022

Message from Mrs Hall

It has been a super week in school and I have been very impressed with how well the children have settled back into the routines. I have been delighted to award a number of headteacher stickers for outstanding work and excellent behaviour this week, which reinforces how well the children are following the Whitehouse Way (Courage, Reflection, Responsibility and Perseverance). Thank you also to all parents/carers who visited their child’s new teacher/classroom this week, it was great to be able to share the learning and discuss any concerns.

Attendance for the previous week:

Class with the best attendance: Cobras (99.6%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: How does a democracy promote the Rights of Children?  (UNRC Link: Article 4: I have the right to have my rights made a reality by the government). Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, simply go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Healthy and Nut Free School

Can we please remind parents/carers that Whitehouse is a Healthy School.  If you would like to provide a packed lunch for your child to eat in school, please do ensure that this a healthy lunch.  Please see the picture for some good examples.  A healthy, balanced diet is very important for your child to be able to do their best learning.

In addition, please be aware that we are a Nut Free School.  We do have a number of children who have a severe nut allergy and even being near someone eating a nut product (including Nutella) can be very dangerous. We do ask for your cooperation in ensuring that we are able to keep these children safe by ensuring no nut products are sent into school.  Thank you for your support.

Scooters/Bikes

A reminder that children who are riding their bikes or scooters to school, must get off them at the gates and walk the bike or scooter through the school site.  This is important so we can ensure the safety of everyone on site.  Please note children who continue to ride on the school site after having been asked not to, may be given a one week ban on bringing bikes or scooters into school.  Thank you for your support.

Times Tables Rock Star (TTSRS) Battles

This week saw the return of class battle on TTRS.  Each week, classes will compete against another class (band) in their phase.  The class winning the most battles over the course of the year will win a reward.  In LKS2 this week, Squirrels defeated Hedgehogs, Foxes beat Owls and Rabbits overcame Badgers. Meanwhile in UKS2, Chameleons narrowly beat Ocelots, Toucans beat Tigers, whilst Macaws and Red Pandas beat Lizards and Jaguars. Battles for this week have already commenced so get yourself logged on to TTRS and get battling!  If you want to see how many battles your class has won, check out the TTRS display next to the KS2 library.

Purple Man Reading Competition

Our popular reading competition has begun again this term with our first winners from last week being: Badgers (Year 3), Hedgehogs (Year 4), Lizards (Year 5) and Chameleons (Year 6).  Well done everyone!

Year 6 High School Applications

A reminder that the deadline to apply for a High School place for your Year 6 child is 31st October 2022.  Many of the local High Schools will be holding Open Evenings where you and your child can go along and see what the school is like and ask any questions you may have to help you decide which school to apply to.  The dates we are aware of are as follows and more details are available on the individual school websites:

Ormiston Endeavour Academy – Tuesday 27th September 5.00pm to 7.00pm

Also, can we please remind everyone that on the first day of absence it is important you let the school know by 9.00am in the morning that your child is not going to be in school and the reason for their absence.  Then on the second day, and every day following this, please also let us know by 9.00am.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Year 1: Local Walk

On Wednesday, all of year 1 went on a short walk around our local area to link with our ‘Where do we live?’ enquiry question.  We walked past Westbourne School, up Galway Avenue, alongside the Co-Op and back into school through the Waterford Road entrance.  We talked about the buildings we saw, how many of us had been to the Co-Op and the fish and chip shop and we even saw two buses along the way!  The children were very well behaved and were able to tell us about their daily walk to school and how many family members live nearby.

School Trips

Please note we are currently reviewing our planning arrangements for school trips.  We will endeavour to allow for each year group to access 3-4 trips or visits each year.  Where there are costs involved we will ensure that parents are given adequate notice.
