Bletchley Park – Year 6
Dear Parents/Carers,
We are writing to inform you about an exciting trip we have organised for our Year 6 children in line with their Autumn 2 enquiry topic ‘How did life change during World War 2?’. We have booked a day at Bletchley Park, with a guided tour session titled: ‘Interception to Intelligence: D-Day.’
As well as an exciting in-depth look into the history of D-Day, the children will get to be at the very location that Alan Turing cracked the Enigma Code, a huge milestone in the war. Children will be able to see real-life coding machines as well as other key items from the past. The session will include a tour of the outdoor area as well as a chance to explore the exhibitions and look at Bletchley Mansion.
The trip to Bletchley Park is planned for Wednesday 27th November. To enable the children to gain the full experience of a day at Bletchley Park, the coach will leave school before the usual start of the school day and arrive back later than the usual end of day time. We will be leaving school at 8:00am promptly. Therefore, children will need to arrive at the Marlow Road office from 7:30am. At the end of the day, we will endeavour to return to school by 5:30pm, however, we will give updates on the day due to traffic etc.
As it will be dark by 5:30pm at this time of the year, we would like you to collect your child form the Marlow Road office on the day.
Your child will require a packed lunch, drink (no glass bottles, sweets or fizzy drinks please) and a snack. If your child is entitled to Free School Meals then please indicate on the attached form if you would like us to provide a school packed lunch.
We will be outside for the some of the day. Therefore, your child will need a warm coat and comfortable footwear e.g. trainers.
The cost per child is a voluntary contribution of £15.00 which covers the cost of coach travel and educational activities. Payments can be made either via the school office or on Arbor.
At Whitehouse, we value the importance of trips as they help the children to engage with their learning and provide opportunities for the children to deepen their understanding through first hand experiences. Please remember that educational trips are not intended to be optional as they are part of our school curriculum. The Bletchley Park visit will be a wonderful and exciting opportunity for the children to experience ‘hands-on’ history.
Please return the attached consent form by Friday 8th November.
Thank you for supporting our curriculum.
Kind Regards
Mr Trimmer, Miss Brett, Mr Taylor, Mr Johnson and Miss Clifton.
