Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 116

Friday 22nd November 2019

Message from Mrs Hall

Thank you for supporting Children in Need at school last Friday. We raised £477.62 – excellent work everyone. There will be a few more fundraising events this term, one for the school, which is scheduled for Wednesday 4th December (non-uniform day), and a Christmas jumper day for St Elizabeth Hospice on Friday 13th December. We are also looking forward to the Christmas Fair on Saturday 7th December – the children will be making lots of Christmas craft items to sell. We do hope that you will be able to attend. Thank you for your continued support.

Reception Open Days (Children starting school in September 2020)

Please note we will be holding our next Reception Open Morning on the following date:

Monday 25th November – 9.15am and 11.00am

This will be a great opportunity for anyone who has a child starting in Reception in September 2020 to have a tour around the school and speak with members of staff to ask any questions you may have. If you require any further information, please speak to a member of the Office Team.

Library Photograph Competition

A big thank you to all the children who sent in photos of themselves reading in unusual places.  The children with the winning photos each received a book prize.  Well done to Lenny, Max, Kezia and Olivia. The photos can now be seen on the walls of our library.

Parent Survey

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey during parent’s evening and to our prefects for overseeing this. If you have a few minutes spare there is still time to complete it by following this link https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VP2B2JV The survey will close on the 29th November 2019.

Attendance

As you will be aware, attendance has been an area we have been focusing on as a whole school.  The National average for all schools is an attendance rate of 96.1%.  We are currently exactly 96.1% – so well done everyone.  As you will see from the graph below, some of our classes are doing very well and are exceeding this figure however; there are a number of classes who are well below the expected level.  Please can we encourage your support, by ensuring your child is at school each day.  If there are any concerns you wish to discuss further regarding your child’s attendance, please make an appointment to see one of the Pastoral Team.

Book Tokens – The Sun

From Saturday 25th November until Saturday 18th January, The Sun and The Sun on Sunday newspapers are printing tokens, which we can collect to earn some books for our school.  Please collect as many as you can and bring them into school to be passed to Mrs West, our Librarian.  Also, please keep an eye out for bonus tokens which can earn us extra points.  We need to try to collect 3,500 tokens to be able to receive our free books.  Thank you for your support.

Under 9’s Girls Football Competition

On Tuesday, Ms Salmon took six girls to a Suffolk FA ‘4 versus 4’ Football Festival at Ipswich Town Football Club.  The girls competed against six other schools and all played extremely well.  Their hard work paid off and the girls won 2, drew 2 and lost 2.  This was the first time some of the girls had represented the school and Ms Salmon was extremely impressed with their behaviour on and off the pitch. Well done to Ellie, Eleanor, Mariana, Evie, Isla and Sophie.  An extra well done to Ellie who received the Fair Play Award – this is an award presented to individuals that show the true spirit of the School Games ethos of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play.

Under 11’s Girls Futsul Competition

On Thursday 14th November, Ms Salmon and Mrs Zantboer took a group of six girls to a Futsal Competition at Inspire, Ipswich.  The girls played five matches.  They won 1, drew 3 and lost 1.  The girls all played extremely well, showing great teamwork and some fantastic football.  Jessica, Tilly and Talia all scored goals, Darcy showed great defending and Hermione and Grace were excellent goalkeepers.  Well done girls.  A big well done to Darcy who also received the ‘Fair Player’ award.

Online Safety

As a parent or carer, the best tool to support your child in leading a happy and safe life online is open conversation.  The ‘Let’s Talk about Life Online’ Parents Guide has now been added to our school website.  This useful tool gives advice on how to begin conversations, how to work together as a family to support your child online and how to handle difficult conversations and situations. Each section has examples of questions to use to start conversations around safe and positive internet use and key messages to share with your child.  The guide can be accessed at the following link: https://primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com/whitehouse-community-primary-school/UploadedDocument/ce168ea561fd4c6898f474b69f90039a/lets-talk-about-life-online.pdf
