Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 187

Friday 25th March 2022

Message from Mrs Hall

Thank you to all our families for your kind donations to the children’s chosen charities (article 12, respect for children’s views). We have continued to be impressed with the effort that all of the children have put into their learning this term. We have some wonderful new displays around the school celebrating their achievements so, we do hope you are able to come and view the children’s books and classrooms after the Easter Break. Don’t forget clocks go forward one hour on Saturday 26th March! Please remember to adjust your clocks for school on Monday morning. Thank you for your continued support.

Girls 5/6 Netball

On Wednesday, Ms Salmon and Mrs Zantboer took 6 girls from Years 5 and 6 to an IPSSA extra large school league netball match at Broke Hall Primary.  With the beautiful weather shining, the girls in good spirits, we were hopeful for a win.  The girls started very strong and this only got better throughout the match, showing great perseverance and determination.  Playing against Broke Hall who had seven Year 6 players, we knew we were in for a tough game, but this did not put the girl’s off.  Despite being 7-1 down at half time the girl’s continued to show some outstanding defensive work as well as some amazing passes of the ball.  The game ended 9-1 to Broke Hall.  Ms Salmon and Mrs Zantboer were very proud of the girl’s efforts and teamwork throughout the match.  Ms Salmon would like to thank parents/carers for their support during the match.  Broke Hall gave player of the match to Lilia, well done!

School Streets

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we have been investigating ways to improve the safety of the streets around school at the start and end of the school day, as well as the issue of parking.  Please note we have made an application to Suffolk County Council to close Marlow Road (as far as Westbourne staff entrance) to traffic at the following times:

Monday to Friday: 8.20am to 9.05am and 2.45pm to 3.15pm

Please note this will mean the road will be fully closed to through traffic and points of closure will be marshalled.  Residents will still be able to have full access but will be requested to drive at a walking speed thought the closure area.  Obviously, there will be full access for emergency services at all times. Should you have any comments or queries you wish to raise, please send them in an email to parents@whcps.org so they can be addressed.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Fundraising Days: Comic Relief and DEC Emergency Fund

A big thank you to all those who donated for our good causes on Friday and Monday. We are very pleased to confirm we will be donating £195.50 to Comic Relief, and £270.50 to the DEC Emergency Fund who are supporting those in Ukraine.  A couple of special mentions:  A big well done to Jayden from Hedgehogs class.  When he heard that the school would be raising money to help Ukraine, Jayden wanted to help!  He collected together all his spare change and the spare change of his family members and friends and together they brought in a donation of £75.00.  What a wonderful example of thinking about other people!  Well done Jayden.  Also, a big thank you to Charlotte, Nate and Jess in Lemurs class, who wanted to raise money for Comic Relief.  They held a bake sale to raise extra funds and made a massive £50.00.  Brilliant job!

Fundraising Days: World Down Syndrome Day

The school community were also busy raising funds on Monday this week, when we supported the World Down Syndrome Day, by wearing odd socks for the day!  We are pleased that we have raised £195.50 to donate to the charity.
