Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 123

Friday 24th January 2020

Message from Mrs Hall

When schools and families work together, children have a far better chance of not only being successful in school but being successful in life as well. At Whitehouse we are keen to work with all parents and carers to enable each child to reach their full potential. We think that one of the best ways to do that is to provide parents/carers with as many opportunities as possible to come into school. Mme Godet has analysed the parent/carer  survey and feedback from school events to create some next steps to make things even better. https://www.whcps.org/parent-survey-on-parental-engagement-2019-2020/ Thank you for your continued support and the positive feedback.

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: Endangered Species: What wild animals are currently disappearing?  What can we do to protect them?  Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, simply go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Parents / Carers Online Safety Workshop

Are you muddled by Minecraft or rattled by Roblox?   Come along to our Parent/Carer workshop on Wednesday 5th February at either 2.00pm or 4.00pm to learn about your child's online world and where to go for more help and advice.  The workshop will be run by the NSPCC and O2 and will be an hour-long interactive event, providing parents/carers with tips, tools and advice in helping to keep your children safe online.  Talking about online safety with your child does not have to be difficult.  We will help build your confidence and enable you to have these important conversations. We look forward to seeing you there!

Grandparents Lunch

Thank you to all the Grandparents who have joined us for lunch over the last few weeks. We look forward to welcoming Year 3 Grandparents on Friday 31st January.  Letters have now been sent home for Year 2, please ensure you book a space if you plan on attending.

Library News

We would like to say a big thank you to all the children and parents/carers who have been donating books to our libraries.  We have been given some lovely books which will boost our collection and give the children an even greater range of books to choose from.  We really appreciate your generosity.

Letters

A reminder that all letters which are sent home with the children are also available on our school website.  Please see the following link: https://www.whcps.org/letters/

Cooking Club – Save the Date

The children who attend after school Cooking Club on a Tuesday have decided they would like to invite an adult to come and make pizza with them during the club on Tuesday 4th February.  Please save the date and keep an eye open for the invitation!

Pupil News

Well done to three of our children Lexi S, Sophie W and Mylie G for running in the Ipswich Park 5K Run.  They run the 5K each Saturday morning and are constantly improving their personal best times!  Well done girls, what a wonderful effort.

Under 11’s Dodgeball Festival

Last Thursday six pupils from Year 6 attended the Suffolk Games Under 11 Dodgeball Festival which took place at Inspire Suffolk.  The team were part of Group B and played against Hillside, The Oaks, St Margarets, Ravenswood and Shotley Primary Schools.  Our team consisted of William, Tilly, Preston, Jessica, Sebastian and Isobel who all showed outstanding teamwork and effort as well as great dodgeball skills and tactics throughout all of their games.  Ms Salmon said it was an enjoyable afternoon and she loved watching these talented Whitehouse children work together to win all of their high energy and fast paced games.  Well done to all.

School Parliament

The School Parliament were kindly invited to visit the Mayor’s Parlour this week.  The children learnt all about the duties the mayor has and were able to discover the history of the regalia in the rooms.  It was a wonderful afternoon.  A big thank you to Mayor Jan Parry for her hospitality and for Councillor Lucy Trenchard for arranging the visit.

Year 6 Pancakes and SATs Information Afternoon – 26th February 2.15pm

After our very successful craft and mince pie afternoon in December, we would like to invite Year 6 parents/carers to come in again this term.  On offer this term will be yummy pancakes and information about SATs.  We have super leaflets to give out to you with lots of valuable information.  This is one of the most useful sessions we offer during the year and it will be an informal session where we can answer any questions you may have.  In addition, we will be able to share papers from previous years so you will be have a better idea of what questions may come up.  Please do join us, we will be providing lots of tasty toppings for you and your child’s pancake!  For those parents/carers who are unable to make this meeting, we will be offering a session after school the same day at 5.00pm to share this information.  The session will last approximately 30-45 minutes.  A letter will be sent home shortly, so please return the signed slip so we know how many pancakes we need!  Thank you.

Year 2 Love of Reading Parent/Carers Session

We are pleased to invite parents/carers of our Year 2 children to a ‘Love of Reading’ session on Thursday 27th February at 2.00pm.  You will have a chance to learn how we teach reading in school and children will teach their parents/carers how we learn comprehension.  Please note, due to space restrictions only one adult per child will be able to attend.  We will be serving hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Please watch out for the letter coming home and return the reply slip so we are aware of numbers attending.
