Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 297

Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 297

Friday 31st January 2025

A Message from Miss Siddall

This week our attendance has been impacted by illness. Please remember to phone the school if your child is ill. Good attendance is really important to enable the children to access the high-quality teaching that we offer every day. Gaps in learning can have a significant impact on a child’s progress and attainment. The children have been learning about this in their assemblies this week so please ask them about our new and exciting attendance kiosk!  To find out more about attendance you can visit our website: https://www.whcps.org/attendance/ or speak to our attendance officer Mrs Zantboer (01473 741249, extension 1). Thank you.

Attendance for last week:

Class with the best attendance:  Tigers (98.57%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be based on Dog Safety and will be led by a visitor from the Blue Cross Charity. (UNRC: Article 19 – I have the right to be protected from being hurt or badly treated).  The children will be learning some very important things about keeping safe whilst around dogs.  Why not go on a walk with your child and let them show you what they have learnt about being safe when they encounter any neighbourhood dogs.

Free School Meal Vouchers

We are pleased to confirm that Suffolk County Council will again be providing vouchers to parents/carers of any child who is eligible for free school meals, to help with food costs over the February half term holiday and the Easter holiday.  Please note on this occasion a voucher of £45.00 will be provided for each eligible child but this will cover both holidays, you will not receive another voucher at Easter.  Please look out for an email to arrive by Thursday 13th February 2025.  If you think your child may be entitled to Free School Meals but you have not yet applied, please click on this link to make an application:  https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/children-families-and-learning/schools/school-meals-uniforms-and-trips/apply-for-free-school-meals. Please note, it is worth applying even if your child does not currently pay for their school meals, as they will remain eligible for their entire time at Primary School.

Parent/Carer Consultation: RSE Policy

As you will be aware the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Policy was recently reviewed within school and sent to parents/carers to read.  The next stage of the review process is to hold a Parent/Carer Consultation which will take place on Tuesday 4th February 2025 at 3.30pm.  Any parent/carer who would like to come along would be very welcome.  Please come to the school office to sign in.

Awards

As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas:  Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility.  This is shown in the colour coded lists below. We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements.  Well done to you all.

Special Menu

We are pleased to let you know our next special menu is planned for Tuesday 11th February 2025.  These days are always very popular with the children and often have their favourite dishes on offer!  It is always a good chance for your child to try a school dinner if they have not had one recently.  The dinner is free for all children in Reception to Year 2 and for any child who is eligible for free school meals, otherwise the cost is £2.52.

Online Safety: Parent/Carer Course

Cyber Protect, who are part of Police Special Operations Unit, are running some online safety courses aimed at parents and carers over the next few months.  Part 1: An Introduction to Cyber Choices and Online Risks. This course will give insight into what cybercrime is, what the risks are for young people and how you can refer a young person for help.  Part 2: Tools and Techniques to Improve the Cyber Security of your Family. This session will provide advice on how to improve your own cyber security, to identify and protect your child’s accounts and how to recognise when cyber criminals may target you or your family.  You will need to register for each session separately.  Each session will last for one hour and is suitable for parents/carers of children in Year 5 and above.

The courses will run several times – please see below for links on how to book.

Attendance Kiosks

This week we were pleased to introduce our new Attendance Kiosks to the children.  Each child in Years 1-6 will receive a ‘passport’ which will be kept in school.  Every child who has 100% attendance for the week will be given a stamp in their passport from our newly assigned Passport Monitors.  Children will then have the option to cash in these stamps for a prize.  Some children may wish to cash in their stamp each week in return for something small like a sweet or a bouncy ball, whilst others may choose to save up their stamps until they have enough for a bigger prize.  The choice is theirs!  The children are very excited and we hope this will encourage them to be in school every day as we celebrate their achievements!

After-School Club: PE Kit Reminder

A polite reminder to all parents/carers that pupils attending an after-school sports club will need to attend their club in their WHCPS PE kit. As with PE days, your child should therefore come into school on club days (sports) in their PE kit.  Please note this also includes no jewellery to be worn during sports clubs.

Cross Country

After his very impressive top 50 finish in the Suffolk Schools Area Cross Country Championships, Arthur recently took part in the next round of races at the Suffolk Schools Area Cross Country Championship Finals.  These took place at Woodbridge School and provided the opportunity for the top 20 runners to progress through to the Anglian Championships.  Arthur again took part in the minor boys’ section, which involved him completing a 3040m course.  The recent spell of frosty and wet weather made for tricky and muddy running conditions.  However, Arthur ran a fantastic race and finished in a very respectable 64th place, out of a very strong field of around 200 runners!  Well done Arthur.
