Message from Mrs Hall

It has been a fantastic year and we are all incredibly proud of what the children have achieved. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support and we are all looking forward to what the next academic year brings. We would like to wish our Year 6 children who are heading off to their different High Schools the very best of luck. Have a great summer break; school starts again for the children on Wednesday 4^th September.

Staff News

As we reach the end of the academic year we will be saying goodbye to a few members of staff as they move onto new challenges.  We wish Mrs Darke, Mrs Jones, Mr Fenelon, Mrs Fountain, Mrs Frost, Miss Mair, Miss Verrall and Miss Ward, the very best of luck and thank them for their commitment to Whitehouse Community Primary.

Thank you to all of those who donated for our recent non-uniform day, we raised £415.40 for the Cystic Fibrosis charity.

Message from Mrs Hall

Thank you for all the positive comments we have received regarding the annual reports. We are really proud of all the children and how hard they have worked to achieve their potential this year. Please ensure that report reply slips are returned before the end of term.  Well done to Year 6 for their superb performance of ‘The Amazing Adventures of Super Stan’. All of the children performed brilliantly and clearly enjoyed the opportunity to sing, dance and act. Thank you to all staff and volunteers for ensuring the show was such a great success – fantastic work everyone.

House Points

Well done to all our children who have been busy earning House Tokens for all their good work, kindness and courage shown in school this year. A special well done to Ruby House who have earned the most tokens this year with 964 points. The children in Ruby House will have a non-uniform day on Tuesday 23^rd to celebrate their efforts.  Also a big well done to Sapphire who earned the most house points for this half-term.  Our House Captains have done a wonderful job this year and we would like to thank them for all their hard work.  Elections have taken place for the House Captains for next year and more information will be shared soon.

 

Staffing

After 11 ½ years at Whitehouse, Mrs Jones will be leaving school to start a new job at Suffolk One. We would like to thank Mrs Jones for her excellent service to the school, families and children. We wish her every success for the future.

Leavers Assembly

On Wednesday 24^th July we will be holding our Year 6 Leaver’s Assembly at 2pm in the Marlow Road Hall to which we would like to invite Year 6 parents/carers.  The children will share some memories of their time at school, sing some of the songs they have learnt for their production and share a song specially written for the occasion!  Following the assembly the children and parents/carers will go onto the school field where there will be an opportunity to take some photos.  Please could we ask the Y6 children to also bring in a spare white shirt on this day so they can get it signed by their peers and staff members.  We look forward to seeing you there!

 

 

EYFS Sports Day

Last Wednesday saw the EYFS children putting their athletic skills into practice during EYFS Sports Day.  The threat of rain certainly did not deter the children and each class and house put 100% effort in each of the activities.  It was lovely to see so many parents/carers attending the event and supporting the children.  On behalf of Ms Salmon and Mr Jordan, they would like to say a big thank you to all pupils, staff and spectators for making the day an enjoyable and successful event.  The final results were: 1^st place:  Ruby - 57 points, 2^nd place: Sapphire – 53 points and Joint 3^rd place: Diamond and Green – 51 points.

 

Property

Can we please remind parents/carers that any property brought onto the school site, including bags, phones, cars, bikes, scooters etc, are done so at your own risk. Whitehouse are not responsible for any damage or loss of items.

 

Sports Award

We are proud to announce that after all our hard work and effort with PE this year we have successfully been awarded with a Gold Sports Mark Award.  The Sports Mark award is given to schools based upon their levels of participation and opportunities within sport and PE offered and organised by the school.  We would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank every child that has been involved in any of the after-school sports clubs and/or has represented the school in fixtures and competitions.  We would also like to thank staff that have given their own time and efforts to support this year’s PE provision, and lastly to parents/carers for all of your continued support in taking your children to fixtures and for supporting everyone.

 

Nursery Graduation

The Nursery Graduation was extremely well attended this year and the children looked the part, having made their own hats for the occasion.  They enjoyed sharing a song about the exciting things they will do in Reception and their favourite nursery rhyme ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ using Makaton sign language.  Each child then had the opportunity to collect their certificate and a small gift, individually shaking hands with Mrs McIntyre.  Refreshments in the garden were enjoyed by all afterwards.  We thank parents/carers for their support throughout this year.

 

OneLife Suffolk Award

Throughout the year we have been working closely with OneLife Suffolk.  They have supported the school on curriculum days and a number of assemblies to provide our children with important information about how to keep themselves fit and healthy.  They have also been working with Mr Jordan to help provide our pupils with additional opportunities through our extensive after-school sports clubs.  The OneLife Suffolk Healthy Active Lifestyle after-school club delivered to KS2 pupils this year was a big success.  As a result of our hard work and collaboration we were delighted to receive a Bronze Health and Wellbeing Excellence Award from OneLife Suffolk.

 

School Disco

We would like to celebrate our fantastic Ofsted report with an end of year Disco for KS1 and KS2 on Tuesday 23^rd July:           Key Stage 1 Disco: 4.00pm – 5.00pm  Tickets £2.00

       Key Stage 2 Disco: 5.15pm – 6.30pm   Tickets £1.50

 

Tickets will be on sale before school on Monday 22^nd July in both playgrounds.  As usual KS1 disco tickets will include snacks and a drink, and KS2 children can bring a small amount of money with them to buy refreshments.

 

Medicines

Please note that all medicine held in school will need to be collected from the office and taken home before the end of term.  Please also ensure that on the last day of term epipens and inhalers are collected from classes and taken home.  If your child will continue to need medication in September, this will need to be returned on the first day of term.  Please note new paperwork will need to be completed.  Thank you for your co-operation.

 

Free Summer Holiday Clubs

OneLife Suffolk are again offering free Summer Holiday Clubs for any child who may be above a healthy weight (91^st centile).   Siblings are also eligible to attend.  The clubs run over five days and offer fun, games and activities, covering topics such as healthy eating, sugary drinks, portion sizes and physical activity. There are several clubs running throughout Suffolk including one at Chantry Academy (IP2 9LR) on Tuesday 27^th - Friday 30^th August 2019 from 9am to 3pm each day.  To book a place you can call OneLife on 01473 718193 or email them on info@onelifesuffolk.co.uk.   If you wish to view when the others clubs are running you can find more information on www.onelifesuffolk.co.uk.

 

Library Photo Competition

We would like to update the photos on the library walls and so will be running another competition for children reading in an unusual place.  If your children do anything exciting or different over the summer holidays please take a picture of them (with a book of course!).  The winning photos will receive a book prize and be adorning the walls of our lovely libraries.  They can be emailed into school to parents@whcps.org or brought into school when we return in September.

Message from Mrs Hall

Thank you to everyone who supported the Summer Fair on Saturday by attending or donating items/prizes. It was a super community event. The PFA and School Parliament will be deciding how they are planning to spend the money raised.  We have 8 days left until the end of term and the children are still immersed in exciting learning – we are really looking forward to watching the School Play. You should have received your child’s annual report today, if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s report then teachers will be available to meet after school on Wednesday 17^th July (no appointment necessary). Please can you ensure that you return the reply slip to say that you have received and read the report. Thank you for your continued support.

Y6 Production

We still have a few tickets left for the Year 6 Production ‘The Amazing Adventures of Superstan’ for each of the three performances next week.  If you would like to buy a ticket they cost £2.00 each and can be purchased at the School Office.

 

KS1 Art Club

This half term some of the children have been attending a KS1 Art Club and have enjoyed creating seascape collages using natural resources.  They used sand, stones of differing sizes, shells and foliage to create beautiful, realistic scenes.  The children took care to consider the different textures that could be found at the seaside, and the natural habitats like rock pools and grassland.  This week the children are making miniature seascape collages that they will be able to take home.

 

Word Millionaire

We are thrilled to let you know we have two more Word Millionaires in school.  Well done to Rihanna Da Costa and also to Ava-Rose Moore who has now read over 2,000,000 words!

 

Clean Air Week

Congratulations to the 330 children who walked, cycled or scooted to school every day in Clean Air Week.  Each of the children have been given a 10 day pass which will give them free access to Crown Pools, the athletics track at Northgate High School as well as tennis and junior sports sessions at any of the Ipswich Borough Council sports centres.  To redeem the pass, parents/carers just need to take the flyer given to the children to any of the sports centres where this will be swapped for the iCard.  Well done to everyone for their efforts!

Year 1 Felixstowe Trip

On Monday 8^th July, Year 1 enjoyed an exciting trip to Felixstowe.  They were able to see all the features they have learnt about in their enquiry lessons, such as the port, ships, beach huts and the pier.  Everyone loved spending time on the beach making sandcastles and collecting shells.  The children thought about what they could see, hear, smell and touch.  They are using their fantastic experience to write some amazing recounts of the trip.

 

Bicycles

Further to last week where we asked you to please ensure your child is not riding their bike on the school site, it has been brought to our attention that several children are riding without helmets on.  Can we please remind you that children are only permitted to ride their bikes to school if they are wearing their helmet.  Thank you for your co-operation.

 

Library Books

We would like to get all of our library books back into school before the Summer Holidays. Could we please ask parents/carers to check whether you have any books at home and to please return these as soon as possible.  Sadly every year we have a number of books go missing, so please do have a thorough check behind cupboards and down sofas!  Thank you for your help.

 

Library Closure

Please note the library will not be open after school on Tuesday 16th July, Thursday 18th July or Tuesday 23rd July.  Thank you to all those who have brought their children along to choose books to share at home.  We would encourage you to come into our libraries in September.  There is a great pleasure to be had reading with and to your children.

 

Free iCards.

As you may remember last Summer Ipswich Borough Council provided free iCards for children over the holidays to enable them to participate in a variety of sports and activities.  This has proved so popular that the Council have decided to make this permanent and so they will be available again to children over the summer holidays.   To be eligible to receive an iCard, children must be aged between 5 and 16 over the summer and live in the Ipswich Borough Council area. As well as use of the sports centre and swimming, there will be over 400 events and activities available including football, cricket, athletics, roller skating, basketball, trampolining, racquet sports, martial arts and disability sports.  To apply for a card please go to: https://www.ipswichfit.co.uk/summerholidayicard/

 

Community News

Holly Cracknell, one of our Year 6 pupils, has been busy growing her hair for the last 3 years to raise funds for The Little Princess Trust which is a charity that makes human hair wigs for children living with hair loss.  Unfortunately due to having coloured her hair in the past Holly is not able to donate her own hair however she has decided to have it all shaved off to raise money instead!  Holly is a little nervous as you can imagine, but determined to do what she can to help. Netball News

Ms Salmon was very pleased and surprised to receive a last minute phone call inviting our Year 5/6 Netball Team to join in the School Games County Netball Final.  The team were very excited!  As the Netball World Cup is being held in Liverpool this month, each team was given a country to represent and Whitehouse was given Trinidad and Tobago.  Our team comprised of Dea, Nicolas, Che, Lauren, Julia, Gracie, Chloe and Tuhana and they were put in a group with St Joseph’s Catholic, Abbot’s Green and Woodbridge Primary Schools.  Unfortunately the team were knocked out at the round robin stage but showed enthusiasm, perseverance and determination throughout.  Ms Salmon was extremely proud of all of the team and their behaviour and is hopeful that the Year 6 children will carry on with their netball at High School. She will very much miss working with them.

Summer Fair

The PFA would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help and support in making our Summer Fair such a great success.  A lot of work went into the planning and organising of the Summer Fair which needed everyone - the PFA, Staff and Parents / Carers to come together. The PFA are always looking to recruit new members so if you are interested please speak to the School Office and Ms Salmon will get in touch. 

 

Summer Reading Challenge

Suffolk Libraries are starting their annual Summer Reading Challenge on 20^th July, in which children are encouraged to read six library books of their choosing.  On completion, they will receive a certificate at a special presentation in the autumn.  It is a wonderful way for children to maintain their reading skills over the summer holidays.  This is always a popular event and last year over 7,400 children took part!   The challenge this year is ‘Space Chase’, an out-of-this world adventure inspired by the 50^th anniversary of the moon landing. You can take your child to any Suffolk Library for more details.  We look forward to hearing about the books they choose to read!

 

 

Bereavement

If your family has a bereavement, please do contact the Pastoral Team as we can offer support to your child to help them through this difficult time. This support would be tailored to your child's individual needs which could include ‘Drawing and Talking’ therapy. In addition, we would ensure that they have a named member of staff that they can talk to. There are also other agencies that you can contact for support. Suffolk Young Cruse offers a range of services both over the phone and face to face which include advice and guidance on caring for bereaved children and ways to support them. Message from Mrs Hall

It was lovely to meet all our new children this week who will be joining us in September. They all seemed very excited to start our great school. Thank you for your support at these meetings and for filling in all the paperwork – if you have any additional questions about our school please don’t hesitate to ask. The building work should be finished by the start of term but there is still a lot to do over the holidays to ensure that all the classes are ready for learning.  Arrangements have not been finalised for Year 2 arrival at school and dismissal at the end of the day, due to the continued work but as soon as we have a plan we will let you know. Thank you for your continued support.

Cystic Fibrosis – Non Uniform Day

Over the last few years, we have held several non-uniform days to highlight some of the hidden disabilities that some of our children deal with.  We will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 12^th July in recognition of Cystic Fibrosis and would ask children to donate £1 which will be passed on to the charity.   Children are welcome to wear yellow, which is the colour the charity uses.

Y6 Production

A reminder that tickets for our Year 6 production go on sale for the whole school from Monday 8^th July 2019.  Tickets cost £2.00 each and it is a wonderful opportunity to come along and support our Year 6 children who have worked extremely hard.  There will be performances as detailed below:

Kurdish Day

On Thursday 27^th June, Year 1 children took part in a special day where they learnt about the culture of their Kurdish friends by participating in a range of activities.  In the morning they attended workshops delivered by our Community Ambassadors during which they made Kurdish flags, danced and prepared traditional wraps.  In the afternoon, Year 1 children were joined by their parents and carers as well as members of the Kurdish community from Whitehouse who arrived in full traditional costumes together with delicious food to share, which was very well received by all who attended. They also performed traditional dances and encouraged the audience to join in. A big thank you to all those who took part.  We are particularly grateful to our new Community Ambassadors who made the event possible.  It was lovely to see our whole school community come together and share this special day.  

 

Celebrating Pupils’ Individual Heritage

Following the success of our Kurdish event and the feedback we received from all involved, we would like to make the celebrating of pupils’ individual heritage one of our topics throughout next year.  We will be celebrating Black History Month in October and have already planned a Suffolk Day at the end of June.  We are also investigating the possibility of some of our pupils visiting the Houses of Parliament. This is going to be an exciting whole-school project.  If you would like to assist us in celebrating your family heritage, please speak to the Office or come to our next Community Ambassador meeting in early September.

 

Girls Football

On Monday the Whitehouse Y5/6 Girls Football Team welcomed Rushmere Primary School for their last home match of the season.  The girls played some great football, and were unlucky to be trailing 2-0 at half time.  They began the second half with some wonderful play, working hard as a team.  Unfortunately they were not able to catch up and the game ended in a 3-0 victory to Rushmere.  Well done to all members of the team.  The team then had their final match of the season on Tuesday, an away game against Hillside Primary School.  The girls gave 100% effort and persevered throughout but found themselves 3-0 down at half time. Going into the second half, the girls continued to fight hard and were rewarded with two superb goals from Tilly Culham.  The final result was 6-2 to Hillside.  Well done to all the girls who have played in the football team this season and thank you to all those who have supported them, it is very much appreciated.

 

Eaton Vale

Last week a group of Year 4 children went to Eaton Vale for a residential trip and had a lovely time.  The children enjoyed a wide range of activities that enabled them to use the Whitehouse Way.  The water activities proved especially popular.  The facilities at Eaton Vale were very good and the food was delicious – no one went hungry!  A very tired group of children returned home on Wednesday and all managed to be back in school, working hard the following day.  Well done to the children who all behaved wonderfully.

 

Bicycles

Can we please remind parents/carers that whilst children are encouraged to ride their bikes and scooters to school it is very important that these are not ridden on the school site.  This includes the playgrounds and footpaths.  We would very much appreciate your co-operation in this matter, in order to ensure the safety of all children and staff. Thank you.

Message from Mrs Hall

Our British Values week has been fantastic. The children have had the opportunity to take part in a variety of experiences, events and trips, as outlined in this week’s six page newsletter. We are very fortunate at Whitehouse to have such dedicated and hardworking staff. Many of our staff have given up their own time to take the children on residential trips. I am sure parents will join me in in thanking the staff for providing such wonderful opportunities.   A great week – well done everyone.

We are very excited and proud to learn this week that after entering a writing competition, 5 pupils from Years 5 and 6 have had their work selected for publication.  The pupils, Julia, Lennon, Peyton, Rihanna and Oliwia, all entered a competition titled ‘The Incredible Diary of…’  What is even more remarkable is that there were over 22,000 entries!  Their work will be published in the book ‘The Incredible Diary of…Adventures from the East’ on 6^th September 2019.  A special mention must also go to Dea whose work was highly commended.

The next writing competition for 7-11 year olds has just been announced.  The challenge is to write a mini saga on the theme of ‘Ancient Adventures’.  If any pupil is interested, please see Mrs Greggor for an entry form.  Closing date is Monday 15^th July.

 

EYFS Trip – Jimmy’s Farm

The EYFS teachers are extremely proud of all the children who went on the trip to Jimmy’s Farm this week, they behaved wonderfully!  The children had a great time looking at all the animals, including the usual farm animals and some others we didn’t expect: baby emus, crocodiles and snakes too!  A big thank you to all the parent helpers who were a brilliant help!

 

New Classes / Moving Up Mornings

On Wednesday and Thursday next week we will be holding two ‘moving up’ mornings for our children who are currently in Reception to Year 5.  This will allow the children to spend time with their new teachers.  Our new Reception intake (who will join us in September) will be in school on Thursday and Friday.  On Wednesday there will be no after school clubs so that parents will also have the opportunity to come into school from 3.15pm to 4.15pm to meet the teachers.  Please note the new classes and teachers are outlined below.  There has been some reorganisation of our current Year 2 and Year 5 classes. Letters have been sent home today with each child in these year groups to inform parents/carers of the new class and teacher.

 

 

As you can see from the list above, a few of our teachers will be leaving to take up new posts. Miss Swire (Mrs McIntyre) is moving to Thetford on 15^th July and Mr Fenelon is moving to Kyson Primary in September. We wish them well in their new jobs. After 20 years of service to Whitehouse Primary School, Mrs Fountain will be retiring. We are so appreciative of her commitment to the education of the children at Whitehouse. We hope she has a wonderful rest and continues to keep in touch with the school, as she will be missed by everyone.

Cystic Fibrosis – Non Uniform Day

Over the last few years we have held several non-uniform days to highlight some of the hidden disabilities that some of our children deal with.  We will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 12^th July in recognition of Cystic Fibrosis and would ask children to donate £1 which will be passed on to the charity.   Children are welcome to wear yellow, which is the colour the charity uses.

 

100% Attendance Trip

This year children who have achieved 100% attendance with no late marks up to and including Friday 28^th June are being rewarded with a trip to Banham Zoo.  This will take place on Monday 22^nd July 2019 and there are currently 44 children who will be going.  The children who have been invited to this trip have brought a letter home today.  If you think your child should qualify for this trip and you have not received a letter, could you please put your reasons in writing, addressed to Mr Williams no later than Wednesday 3^rd July 2019.

 

Summer Fair – Non Uniform Day

The Summer Fair is almost here and the PFA are busy making arrangements for a great day!  Thank you to all those who have donated raffle prizes or soft toys for the tombola. Please note we will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 5^th July for which we would ask children to donate ‘sweets or treats’ which will then be used on the Summer Fair stalls.

 

Year 2 Enrichment Week

As part of the activities the children have participated in this week, Year 2 celebrated the diverse ethnic origins of pupils within our school and learnt about some of their cultures and traditions.  Children brought in lots of items to share including photos, traditional dress and lots of food.  Some of the children and teachers even learned how to speak some Polish and Romanian!  The children thoroughly enjoyed their week and have learnt a lot about some of our closest communities.  Thank you to all the parents who supported our celebrations!

 

Y6 Production

Our Year 6 children have been very busy working on their Production ‘The Amazing Adventures of Superstan’.  Tickets will be going on sale for Y6 families on Tuesday 2^nd July 2019 and will be on sale for the rest of school from Monday 8^th July 2019. Tickets cost £2.00 each.  We hope you will all come along and celebrate the hard work of our Y6 classes. 

 

Dogs

Can we please remind parents/carers that dogs are not allowed on the school site.  This includes dogs on a lead or being carried.  This is important for ensuring the safety of all.  Thank you for your co-operation.

 

Community News

It has been a very busy few sporting weeks for one of our Year 5 pupils! During the recent half term, Preston attended a football tour with his football team Witnesham Wasps. At the end of the tour Preston was awarded a trophy by his manager for ‘Managers Player of the Year’. Preston’s hard work and skills were also recognised by the opposing teams, as he also received a certificate for the ‘Opposition Fans' Favourite’. To finish the tour off Preston, along with his teammates, was presented with a medal by former professional footballer and MBE Gary Mabbott. No sooner had Preston arrived back from one tour he was off on another. This time Preston was representing his second football club Norwich RDP on a 3 stadium tour. At the end of the tour Preston was one of only four, out of 54 players aged 9-15 years old, to be rewarded with an Arsenal polo top for going ‘above and beyond’ with his efforts and behaviour during the tour.  Finally, last weekend Preston took part in, and completed, the Race for Life, Cancer Research – Ipswich Pretty Muddy Kids Obstacle Race at Trinity Park. A fantastic achievement for an equally fantastic charity. Well done Preston!

 

KS1 and KS2 Sports Day

Despite the recent wet weather, last week we were blessed with dry and warm conditions for our annual KS1 and KS2 Sports Day. A much anticipated whole school event amongst the pupils, this year’s Sports Day continued to be a massive success. As a result, Mr Jordan and Ms Salmon would like to say a big thank you to all pupils, staff, and particularly all of the parents and carers for making the KS1 and KS2 Sports Day a very enjoyable event. The pupils’ effort, behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day was amazing. It was great to see so many pupils enjoying themselves, competing with massive smiles on their faces and demonstrating ‘The Whitehouse Way’. It was also great to see so many spectators enjoying the event and cheering the children on. After combining both the morning and afternoon scores, the final results were as follows: 1st Sapphire (316 points), 2nd Ruby (306 points), 3rd Diamond (253 points) and 4th Emerald (244 points). We are now very much looking forward to the EYFS Sports Day on Wednesday 10th July.

 

PE Awards 2018/19

Last year Mr Jordan introduced two new PE awards presented to pupils at the end of KS1 (Yr2) and KS2 (Yr6). The first award recognises pupils’ effort and contribution within PE. Congratulations goes to Maxi Bradshaw, Lilia Pawlik, Katie-Ann Garner-Bull, Edmond Tahiri, and Lauren Garnham for receiving this year’s award. The second awards, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year celebrates fantastic achievements and persistent effort, behaviour and commitment to PE and extracurricular sports activities. The winners of this prestigious award went to Ethan, Mylie, Reuben, and Che. Well done to all of you, this was thoroughly deserved!

 

Bikeability

This week 11 of our Yr 5 pupils took part in a Suffolk County Council lead cycling training course known as ‘Bikeability’. Throughout the course pupils were taught, and assessed, on their cycling skills and safety. The pupils demonstrated their skills during off road/playground activities (level 1), before continuing their training by cycling on quiet local roads (Level 2). A massive congratulations goes to all of the pupils for passing their Level 1 award. Unfortunately, a clash with the Mersea residential trip meant that not all of the pupils were able to continue into the second day to complete their Level 2. However, a further congratulations goes to the 4 pupils that were able to achieve their Level 2 award. Following the success of this year’s Bikeability, Mr Jordan has already spoken to the instructors to secure dates for next year!

Message from Mrs Hall

We have had a request from our school neighbours to remind our parents to park respectfully and not to block driveways or park on gardens. We would urge parents to consider walking to school to alleviate congestion and to keep the area around the school safe for our children. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

In addition, please can we thank everyone for your understanding at the start of the week when we were without phone lines for two days.   This made running the school difficult, but we appreciated parents’ texting, emailing messages and phoning the school mobile so that we could ensure the safety of all the children.

Clean Air Week – Monday 17^th June to Friday 21^st June

The children all enjoyed an assembly this week with representatives from Ipswich Borough Council learning about air quality and the environment.  A big well done to all the children who made a special effort to come to school this week by walking or on their bikes or scooters.  We will update you next week as to how many children received their 10-day Sports Centre passes for not using a car to get to school all week. 

 

Post Box

As most parents / carers will be aware, the School Office can get very busy at certain times in the day.  We have a red post box located in the reception area, (next to Staff Photos) were you can place money and reply slips.  Please make sure you place them in a sealed, named envelope. There are envelopes and pens on the box for you to use.  The post box is checked every day and saves people having to queue to speak to a member of the office team.  Thank you for your co-operation.

 

Summer Fair

Our Summer Fair is now just a few weeks away and we are all very excited for the wonderful things the PFA have organised for the day.  If you have any unwanted teddies or gifts that could be used for our Teddy Tombola or Raffle, these would be gratefully received.  These can be handed in at 

the school office.  We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 6^th July at 11.30am to 2.30pm.

 

Girls Football

On Thursday 14^th June our Year 5/6 team played a home game against Cedarwood.  From the first whistle the girls worked very hard and it resulted in the first win of the season for our team, with a score of 3-1.   Well done to Jessica Middlesmiss, Tilly Culham and Darcy Cleaver who all scored during the match.  Jessica also received Player of the Match as she played very well throughout.   Thank you to all those parents / carers who were able to come along and support the girls.

 

Free School Meals

Thank you to all those who have filled in and returned the forms for Free School Meals.  If you have not done so, please can you return these to school on Monday at the latest.  We would ask you to complete the form even if your child is already on Free School Meals or you think you are not entitled.  As a thank you, we will be sending home free water bottles to all children whose form has been returned.

At this time of year, it is very difficult to find enough space in the newsletter to share all the great things that the children have been learning!  Don’t forget to look at our website for further information and the new curriculum maps for this half-term. Sports Day is approaching (Friday 21st June) which is one of my favourite days of the year. I know the children have been practising their events and are very keen to compete for their houses. Girls Football News

Our Girls Football Team recently played a match against Gusford Primary School.  They played a very solid first half where no goals were conceded.  The second half of the game was a bit more challenging and the team lost 3-0.  The girls all played extremely well and Miss Horne was proud of all of the team.  A special well done to Che who was given player of the match for her excellent determination to win every ball!

 

This week they travelled to Sidegate Primary School for their next match.  The girls worked extremely hard from the first whistle.  Unfortunately, Sidegate took the lead despite the great attempts from our Goalkeeper.  Just when the girls were feeling defeated, Che took the ball from the halfway line, performing an amazing run past numerous Sidegate players and without hesitation, shot and scored our first goal of the match.  Well done to the whole team, again you made Mrs Reddington and Miss Horne very proud.

 

Word Millionaire

We are pleased we have another child who has become a Word Millionaire.  A big well done to Rihanna Da Costa for this great achievement.

 

Year 2 – Morrisons Trip

The children in Year 2 were pleased to be able to visit Morrisons in Ipswich this week.  They were introduced to the store warehouse as well as the fruit and vegetable departments.  Morrisons gave the children information about the origin of many of our favourite fruit and vegetables before teaching them how to use the tills.  All of the children had a go at being on the checkout which they thoroughly enjoyed and then were treated to sampling many of the fresh fruit and vegetables sold within the store.  A big thank you to Morrison, Ipswich for their hospitality.

 

Year 6 – Crucial Crew Trip

The children attended a number of workshops on Monday morning at the Inspire Suffolk site in Ipswich.  Whilst there, they learnt about a range of topics designed to help keep them safe and healthy as they move up to High School next year.  Some of the workshops included water safety, fire safety, keeping safe online, respectful relationships and healthy eating. The children had a great time and came away with many useful ideas. 

 

Nut Free School

Can we again remind parents/carers the importance of ensuring we remain a nut free school.  Please do not send any products in packed lunches or for snack which contain nuts.  We have a number of both pupils and staff who are severely allergic and we need to ensure the safety of all.  Thank you for your co-operation.

 

Out Loud Music – SEND Day

Out Loud Music, along with Activities Unlimited, have been providing clubs and activities for children and young people with additional needs for many years.  They will be holding an SEN Open Day at South Street Studios in Ipswich on Saturday 22^nd June and all children with SEN needs are welcome to attend.  Please refer to the poster for further information and register your interest at the following link: https://www.outloudmusic.org/openday.  If you have any further questions please call on 01473 852555.

Clean Air Week – Monday 17^th June to Friday 21^st June

We are pleased to have partnered up with Ipswich Borough Council to support National Clean Air Day on 20^th June 2019.  They will be coming into school to work with the children, helping them learn about how pollution affects them and how we can improve local air quality.  Some of the children will also be talking to Parents/Carers at the end of the day and sharing some leaflets.  As a school we will be taking part in the ‘Clean Air Challenge’ for the week of Monday 17^th June to Friday 21^st June 2019.  Each pupil who walks, cycles or scooters to and from school every day will be given a free 10 day pass at one of the Council’s sporting facilities and the chance to win a free 1 month iCard. We would encourage you to take part by not using a car to come to school each day.  If you live too far away you could still take part by parking further away from the school and walking the rest of the way. Please note if your child comes on their bike or scooter there is a rack these can be left in during the day.  Which class will be the most eco-friendly?

Messages

Can we please ask parents / carers if there are changes in pick up arrangements to please inform the school office before lunchtime wherever possible.  We do understand emergencies happen but receiving messages as early as possible is very helpful in ensuring they are passed along.

 

Word Millionaire

We are pleased to have another 2 children who have become Word Millionaires, well done to Che Ruiz and Cameron Weedon.  A special well done to Dennis McGunnagle also, who has now achieved two million!  This is a wonderful achievement.

 

Times Tables Rockstars

As you will have seen in the letter sent home this week, we have introduced Times Tables Rockstars into school. This is a great system that will help the children with learning multiplication and gaining confidence in maths. As well as sessions within school the children can log in at home.  Each child has been given a username and password, which can be found in their reading journals.  To play online, go to play.ttrockstars.com.  Alternatively, you can download a free app onto any device, either Android or IOS.  If you have any questions please contact the school office or speak to their teacher.

Community Ambassador Meeting

Our Community Ambassadors will be meeting in school at 9.00am on Tuesday 11 June to finalise our Year 1 Kurdish Day which is due to take place on Thursday 27 June.  If you would like to join the scheme and help with the planning of this exciting event, just come along on the day.

 

Internet Outage

Unfortunately we have had a problem with our internet connection over the last two days.  This meant that we were not able to access some of our school systems, including the children’s library system for changing books and quizzing.  We were also unable to update Tapestry or pick up emails / send texts.  The outage was caused by a problem outside school and our suppliers have now repaired this.  We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Message from Mrs Hall

A big well done to all our Year 2 children for their resilience and reflectiveness in completing their assessments this month. They have been well prepared by our staff and they have worked so hard to demonstrate what they know. We couldn’t be prouder of them! We do hope that everyone has a wonderful half-term holiday. School starts back for the children on Tuesday 4^th June. Year 2 will be visiting Morrisons this week, so please ensure that any reply slips are returned to the office. Thank you for your continued support.

Reception – Super Writers

Our Reception children are working very hard on their writing this year.  Each morning they come into school and copy out their ‘Super Sentence’ for the week.  On Friday morning this is taken away and the children have to try and write it all by themselves.  The children who do a wonderful job become ‘Super Writers’ and are allowed to wear the superhero capes!  Well done to Zachary, Dishaanth, Amelia, Tilly, Remi and Carter for all their hard work and wonderful writing.

 

Word Millionaires

We are thrilled to let you know that one more of our children has become a Word Millionaire – well done to Abi Gunn!  What a great achievement.

 

Ice lollies

Our Year 6 children are busy fundraising for their end of year activities and will be selling ice lollies on the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds on Friday 7^th June and Friday 14^th June.  They will be available straight after school.  Please come along and buy yourselves a little treat and help support our Y6 children.  Thank you. 

 

Nut Free School

We would like to remind parents / carers that we are a nut free school.  This means that we do not allow any child to bring in any food items that contain nuts, including peanut butter sandwiches.  It is very important that everyone adheres to this rule as we have a number of children and members of staff who have severe allergies and we want to keep everyone safe.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

 

Summer Fair

Please note our PFA are busy organising the school Summer Fair which will be taking place on Saturday 6^th July from 11.30am to 2.30pm.  We hope you will all be able to come along and join us for a fun-filled afternoon.  If you are interested in having a table to sell your crafted items, please inform a member of the School Office Team and let them know the type of items you wish to sell.  A member of the PFA  will then confirm to you if a table is available and let you know the price to hire it.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

 

PD Day

A reminder that the children are not in school on Friday 24^th May and Monday 3^rd June as these are PD Days, the children then return to school on Tuesday 4^th June.

 

French for the Family – Badgers Class

Thank you to the 21 parents / carers who attended the French for the Family event last week.  Your support is very much appreciated.  We had a wonderful afternoon of learning, making new friendships and enjoying the French crepes that the children had made.  They were really scrumptious!  A wonderful and memorable learning experience was had by all as illustrated by parents’ comments:  ‘taking part with my daughter was special’.  ‘Communication was very good between children, parent and teacher’.  ‘I enjoyed spending time with my child on a one to one basis.’  ‘I enjoyed it all, the games were good for the children to have fun whilst learning.’  ‘Another event for a different situation would be good.’

 

Alton Water Race 2019

Congratulations to one of our Year 5 pupils, Oscar, who took part in the Alton Water Race last weekend.  Oscar ran in the 2K race and finished in a very impressive 29^th place.  This is an amazing result when considering that approximately 300 other competitors also ran the 2k race.  A fantastic achievement.  Well done Oscar.

 

Netball Festival

On Tuesday 21^st fourteen of our Year 5 and 6 children took part in an Ipswich and South Suffolk Games U11 Netball Tournament held at the Ipswich School Sports Centre.  Whitehouse entered two teams, ‘A’ and ‘B’.  The teams played against four other schools, Dale Hall, St Mark’s, The Oaks and Witnesham Primary.  For most of the ‘B’ team this was the first time they have ever played in a netball match, the team consisted of William, Liliana, Abigail, Maisie, Ava, Nicolas and Hope.  Great perseverance and teamwork was shown by all of the children.  Our ‘A’ team have been playing together for a year and have shown some outstanding quality netball.  The team consisted of Che, Lauren, Tuhana, Gracie, Chloe, Julia and Dea. 

The ‘A’ team finished in second place overall and our ‘B’ team in eighth place.  One player in each time

was selected by the umpires to win the Fair Player Award. This is given for showing excellent team spirit, sportsmanship, a positive attitude and good behaviour.  A special well done to Tuhana from our ‘A’ team and Nicolas from our ‘B’ team for winning this award.  It was a pleasure for Ms Salmon and Miss Horne to accompany a group of children who followed every Whitehouse Golden Rule!  Well done to all of you.

Ms Salmon is sad this was the last netball match for our Year 6 children.  It has been a pleasure for her coaching the girls and she hopes they will continue to play at High School.  On a wonderful note, the team finished in 3^rd place on the IPSSA School Netball League.  Huge congratulations to everyone who participated throughout the year.

 

Year 5 and 6 Girls Football

The Whitehouse girls football team had an away match against Cliff Lane Primary School this week.  As always the girls all showed perseverance throughout and played their best game.  The game ended as a draw which was not a true reflection of the way the girls played. Codie and Darcy made some excellent plays and Sophie did a great defensive job as our Goalkeeper.

Player of the Match was given to Darcy.  It was her first football match and she gave an excellent performance.  Well done!  Thank you to all the parents / carers who came along to support the team.  Miss Horne and Mr Bradford were very proud of the team. 

 

Year 6 Bowling Trip

We are very proud of our Year 6 children who worked very hard in their SATs last week.  As a treat for all their efforts and perseverance, the children and their teachers all went Bowling on Friday, where they played a couple of games and had some lunch.  A good time was had by all.
