Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 264

Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 264

Friday 22nd March 2024

A Message from Miss Siddall

We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to attend parents/carers evening over the last two weeks to see the wonderful work your children have completed.

Thank you for your support with this and I hope you found it useful to find out how you can help your children with their learning.

If there is anything that you think we can improve on, please do let us know.

Attendance for the previous week:

Class with the best attendance: Tigers (98.40%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: Elections: What is it and why do people vote?  (UNRC: Article 12: I have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously).  Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Beat the Street

It is our final week of Beat the Street, as the last chance to collect points is on Wednesday 27th March 2024.  So, it is time for everyone to get on their walking boots, grab their cycles and scooters and get busy for the next few days!   Great news, every box this week is double points so we can earn even more points to add to our Whitehouse total.

We are currently in third place so everyone has done an amazing job!  We have quite a lot of points to gather to catch the second place school up, but it is always possible if we work hard!

We hope you have all really enjoyed getting out and about in the sunshine (and rain!) as we all got a little bit healthier and a little bit fitter moving around Ipswich.

Awards

As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas:  Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility.  This will be shown in the colour coded lists below.  We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements.  Well done to you all.

New Menu

Please note we will be having our new lunchtime menu starting after the Easter holidays.  This is now available to view on our website: https://www.whcps.org/school-dinners/

Year 3: Colchester Castle Trip

This week our Year 3 children visited Colchester Castle.  They very much enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Roman’s and make connections between the castle and what they had already been learning about in school.  The children had opportunities to visit the prison, build a roundhouse and have a guided tour underneath the castle.  Year 3 made us all very proud with the way they represented the school, showing outstanding behaviour and respect to the castle staff members and the equipment they used and saw.  A big thank you to all of the adults who helped us on the day, and allowed the day to be such a success.

Healthy Eating Ideas: Drink Swaps

Did you know that one quarter of the sugar children have every day comes from sugary drinks?  We can help them cut back by making these very simple swaps, and remember to keep juice drinks to mealtimes only to help prevent tooth decay.  Even just 1 or 2 everyday swaps can really make a difference and go a long way to making each day healthier – but the more you can make, the better!

  • Juice Drinks
  • Cola and other fizzy drinks
  • Milkshakes

  • Sugar-free drinks
  • No-added sugar drinks

The Blank Page Project: Free Creative Sessions (10-16 years old)

Suffolk Libraries are once again taking part in ‘The Blank Page Project’ and have organised an exciting programme of free, high-quality creative workshops run by talented local artists.  The workshops, targeted at 10-16 year olds, will take place at selected libraries across Suffolk during the Easter holidays.  Choose from special effects make-up, film making, community wall art, board game illustration and character creation and more.  Our nearest participating libraries are Chantry, Gainsborough and Stowmarket.  Full details can be seen here: http://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/blank-page

Eco News:

This week we have been around the school and collected all of the used glue sticks and pens.  We will update the eco-board with how much we have collected so far, so keep your eyes peeled!  Please remember to put your used pens and glue sticks in the boxes at the end of your corridor.  You can find them near your recycling bins or in your classrooms!
