Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 266

Friday 19th April 2024

A Message from Miss Siddall

Welcome back to the summer term at Whitehouse.  We hope you had had a restful holiday with your families.  Thank you to those who sent in pictures to share your children’s activities – we have shared some of these in the newsletter.

Looking forward to the term ahead, we have Y1 going to the zoo, Y2 going to the farm and Y6 going to the Hindi Samaj.  We also have some in school events – Y5 have had a climate workshop, Y3 are having a French day and several year groups have parent sessions planned.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Attendance for the week before Easter:

Class with the best attendance: Rabbits (98.71%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: British Values: What are they and how can we achieve them? (UNRC: Article 30: If I come from a minority group, because of my race, religion or language, I have the right to enjoy my own culture, practise my own religion, and use my own language).  Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Readers’ Cup

Well done to the following classes who won the Readers’ Cup the week before Easter:

Year 3

Rabbits

Year 4

Foxes

Year 5

Jaguars

Year 6

Tigers

Family Breakfasts

Our popular Family Breakfasts will be starting again on Monday morning.  This is a lovely way to start the school week, as parents/carers are invited to come into school at 8.00am and enjoy a simple, free breakfast with their children.  Please come in via the Key Stage 1 playground on Marlow Road, where Mrs Gotts will meet you and show you where to go.  We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Please note this will not run during KS2 Sats Week (Monday 13th May 2024).

Celebrating our Children and Staff

We have been really happy to see what the children and our staff have been doing over the Easter holiday and wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate their achievements!

You may remember we shared details of a singing workshop taking place for Key Stage 2 children at St Mary-le-Tower church.  We were thrilled to hear that some our Year 4 children (Holly, Seth, Maddie, Jason and Eli) went along.  They took part in the workshop Monday to Wednesday and then at the end performed a concert for their parents.  We heard the children did amazingly well and even sang a song about recycling and played instruments made from recycled materials!  Well done to all of you!

Meanwhile Jessica in Year 6 has been continuing with her golf journey.  We were thrilled to hear that she won her first competition on 31st March 2024.  Jessica won the 9-hole Lady Di Memorial Cup at Fynn Valley Golf Club.  What a fabulous achievement.  Well done Jessica!

Also, a big well done to Mrs Jousiffe, a member of our Office Team who completed her first marathon during the Easter holiday.  Mrs Jousiffe has been training very hard and was thrilled to be able to travel to Brighton to run the course.  She completed it in 4 hours and 45 minutes. A big well done to you! She is already planning for her next marathon!

Healthy Eating Breakfast Recipe Ideas: Overnight Oats

40g porridge oats

50g natural yoghurt (full fat for children aged 1-2yrs)

100ml of milk

1-2 handfuls of mixed berries (ideally frozen)

Mix all of the ingredients together.  Cover and put in the fridge overnight so the oats absorb the yoghurt.

In the morning remove from the fridge and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions:

  • The quantities used here make enough overnight oats for 1 adult
  • You can use any fruit for overnight oats, such as apple, pear and cinnamon, banana, strawberries to name but a few!

If you do have a try why not send in a photo to parents@whcps.org or add to your Tapestry account.

Year 6 - Design and Technology

In their recent unit, our Year 6 children have been exploring their enquiry topic by designing and printing coastal-patterned beach bags.  Through researching and testing different printing methods, the children created detailed construction plans in order to block-print their designs using polystyrene.  They also used computer-aided design (CAD) to experiment with seamless patterns.  The printing process involved selecting and using a wider range of different tools and using teamwork to help their partners print precisely.  Finally, the children them completed their designs by adding embellishments and a secure fastening, developing and demonstrating their sewing skills!  Well done Year 6.

Attendance: Duck Races

As we head into the summer term a new attendance incentive has been launched!  The children were introduced to this at the end of last term and it was met with great excitement.  This incentive will hopefully encourage good attendance and will allow the children to become responsible for their own attendance.   Every Friday, duck races will occur in every class during golden time.  Each child who has been in school every day that week, will be allocated a duck and will take part in the race.  It is carried out on the classroom whiteboard and the winner will receive a sticker and the kudos of being the Duck Race Winner!  As time goes on, we will be bringing in prizes, but need an initial few weeks to ensure it all works seamlessly.

Please be sure to ask your child about the Duck Race as we are sure they will be able to share their excitement for this.

Referral Forms

Our SENDCo team have been receiving a large number of referral forms to be actioned recently from parents/carers.  Whilst we are always happy to help by completing these, please be aware that this does take some time to gather the various information from staff members so it may take up to a calendar month to complete these for you.  Thank you for your understanding.

Clarks ShoeShare: Thank You

A big thank you to all those families who have donated to the Unicef/Clarks ShoeShare today.  Your kind donations are very much appreciated.
