Message from Mrs Hall
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for supporting our Christmas Fair on Saturday. This was a great success and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the day. Thank you for your wonderful donations. Our PFA will be meeting again in January to organise the next fundraising activities. I hope you will be able to join us to share your ideas. All the money raised will be spent on activities and events for the children throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support.

Classes with the Best Punctuality – Elephants, Owls, Chameleons and Tigers

Viking Day – Year 4
Our children in Year 4 have been busy learning about Vikings as their topic this term. On Monday 16th December, parents/carers are invited to come into class early, at 2.55pm where they will be able to view the homework the children have completed. Then on Tuesday 17th December, the children will be having a Viking Celebration Day where they will get a chance to experience what life would be like as a Viking! Children are invited to dress as a Viking on this day. This can be a very simple costume wearing beige, green or brown t-shirt and trousers. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Irie Steelpan Workshops
We were delighted that Junior and Marcella visited Whitehouse Community Primary last week to share their amazing workshops with the children. All the children watched a super assembly then Year 2 and Year 5 took part in class workshops. Everyone enjoyed the event – singing and dancing together.
Christmas Fair
The PFA would like to thank everyone for attending the Christmas Fair which was a very festive and successful event! It was wonderful to see so much support from our children and their families. We can let you know that ‘Guess the Money’ was won by Alissa who guessed £38.00. The actual total was £38.44 so it was a very close guess. The ‘Guess the Weight of the Cake’ was 3.5kg. Well done to Amber who gave the closest guess at 3.4kg. Thank you also to all those who tried to guess the teddy bear’s name, we can announce the correct answer was Amy. We are thrilled to let you know that overall the Christmas Fair raised the grand sum of £1,793.45. Thank you for your support.

Library News
We have our first Word Millionaire of the year! Congratulations to Harvey who has not only reached one million words but is already halfway to his second! Bearing in mind that the average Level 6 book has about 60,000 words he would need to have read 16 books in just three months. That is really quite an achievement! Well done Harvey.
Art Solutions
WOW! Year 3 had an amazing art experience with the help of Art Solutions this week. Each class created a version of a famous painting using newspaper, tissue paper and lots of glue! Hedgehogs created ‘Monet’s Bridge’ by Claude Monet. Squirrels made ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. Robins worked on ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm’ by Henri Rousseau and Foxes produced a version of David Hockney’s ‘Trees’. The children had a great time creating the art work and supported each other brilliantly in their teams. All the work is now on display in the Year 3 corridor in school and looks stunning.
Writing Competition News
We are delighted to announce that our latest Writing Competition ‘Poetry Monsters’ has resulted in 8 of our pupils having their work selected for publication in a book. The successful poets were: Lilia (Y3), Karen (Y5), Bavya (Y5), Harrison (Y5), Oliwia (Y6), Dennis (Y6), Alyssa (Y6) and Tia (Y6). This is an outstanding achievement from the school as over 20,000 children entered the competition. The poems will be published on 17th January 2020. Some of our children are now busy working on their entries for the latest competition: The Adventure Zone. Entry for this has closed today. Next term there will be another competition for budding poets. The title is ‘Let it Snow’ and focuses on the theme of winter. We will be starting some new writing clubs in the Spring Term for Key Stage 2 pupils so keep an eye out for this on the after-school clubs letter. Well done to all our published writers!
Nativity Plays
We have had a wonderful couple of weeks full of exciting Nativity plays. The children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 all did an amazing job, and sang their hearts out to packed audiences! Staff would like to thank all those parents/carers who came along to watch the children and for all their support in helping to provide costumes.
Christmas Dinner
A reminder that we are having our school Christmas dinners next week. Please note these will only be available if you have pre-booked. On Tuesday 17th December the Reception and Years 1 and 2 will have their hot Christmas meal. All KS2 children will need to bring a packed lunch that day, unless they receive Free School Meals and have pre-booked a Pick and Mix. On Wednesday 18th December Years 3-6 will have their hot Christmas meal. All EYFS and KS1 children will need to bring a packed lunch unless they have pre-ordered their Christmas Pick and Mix. If you are unsure if you have ordered please check with the school office.
After-School Clubs
Please note after-school clubs finish on Friday 13th December. There will be no clubs next week. The exception to this will be Choir who will be meeting on Monday as usual to practice for their Young Voices performance. A letter will go out shortly giving the children the opportunity to sign up for clubs for after Christmas.
Change of Menu
Please note on the last day of term, Thursday 19th December, the menu has changed and will be Fish and Chips with a vegetarian option of Vegan Nuggets and Chips. Dessert will be a choice of Jelly, Fruit Salad or Yoghurt.
