Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 134
Friday 25th September 2020
Message from Mrs Hall
This month appears to have gone so quickly and it we will soon be October! Despite the rainy mornings this week, the children have remained excited about coming to school and each day they have been ready to learn as soon as they get into class. Please can we remind parents and carers that we do go outside in cool and drizzly conditions, and children will need appropriate coats, hats and boots as the season changes. Don’t forget, we are still offering a daily Breakfast Club. If you would like to book a place for your child please see the school office for more details. Thank you for your continued support.
Attendance for the Previous Week
Class with the Best Attendance – Owls (100%)
Class that needs to improve their Attendance – Lemurs (89.2%)
Classes that need to improve their Punctuality – Elephants and Rabbits
Assemblies
The theme of our assemblies for next will be: Black History Month: Who are the current prominent black artists in literature and the arts? Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website. To access them, simply go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.
Breakfast Club
We are pleased to let you know that our Breakfast Clubs are now being supported by Greggs Foundation who are the charitable arm of the Greggs Bakery chain. They offer support by assisting with funds to buy any extra materials we need each week and also providing us with bread for the children to have their toast each day! We are very grateful to have their support.
After-School Clubs
We are pleased to confirm our after-school clubs will recommence on Monday. Please note children will need to have returned the paper forms in order to attend. Clubs will be run within class bubbles to ensure they run in a Covid safe way. Please ensure if your child is attending you check where they need to be collected and arrive promptly for 4.15pm. Details of the club can be seen here: https://www.whcps.org/23-09-2020-after-school-clubs/

Payments
Can we remind parents/carers that due to the current circumstances we are unable to take money in school. We would encourage where possible that payment is made online using either a debit or credit card, through Suffolk County Council using the following links:
Dinner Money: https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/children-families-and-learning/schools/school-meals-uniforms-andtrips/school-meals/. Please note you will be asked which days your child will be eating a school dinner. You can enter any dates as we do not use this information, but will continue to ask your child each day what they would like for lunch. There is a minimum payment of £11.50 which is the price of five school meals.
Breakfast Club: https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/children-families-and-learning/schools/school-meals-uniforms-andtrips/pay-for-a-school-trip/ Where online payment is not possible we are able to accept a cheque which should be made payable to Suffolk County Council.
Face Coverings
Can we remind parents/carers that any adult who comes on to the school site needs to ensure they are wearing a face covering unless they have a medical exemption. We very much appreciate your co-operation in this as we want to ensure all parties are kept safe.
Absence from School
It is that time of year when lots of staff and children are coming down with colds and some parents/carers are concerned as whether to send children into school or not. Please note if your child is feeling well enough and has a cold they are still able to attend school. However, according to NHS England, if your child has any of the following symptoms, please do contact 111 for advice and try to order a test if advised to:
A high temperature
A new, continuous cough (this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
A loss or change to the sense of smell or taste
Young Writer’s Competition
If you enjoy writing, why not enter a writing competition? There are competitions available for all age groups and you could even get your work published! All information can be found on our website at the following link: www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions. You can either enter directly or email your entry to Mrs Greggor at parents@whcps.org and we will upload it to the Young Writers website for you. Good luck!
Behaviour on-site
Can we please remind all parents/carers that there is an expectation that whilst on the school site everyone behaves appropriately. We would remind all that behaviour to other adults and to children should be polite and respectful and no swearing should take place on site. Thank you for your cooperation.
GB Athlete Visit
We are very excited to again welcome a visit from a GB athlete into school on Friday 2nd October. Gianni Frankis (World and European Youth Bronze medallist and U23 European Silver medallist) will be meeting with some of our class bubbles to conduct Covid-safe inspirational assemblies, 10 minute fitness sessions and Q&A sessions. This will again be a fantastic way to help us launch our annual Paralympic Week (5th – 9 th October), where we will be having Paralympic inspired PE lessons. Due to the current Covid situation, our visiting athlete will unfortunately be unable to work with all year groups, but will be with the class bubbles in Year 4. However, to ensure that none of our pupils miss out, Gianni will be recording a personalised and engaging inspirational assembly for all our pupils. We are looking forward for yet another inspirational experience for our pupils and staff.
Birthdays
We know that many of you like to help celebrate your child’s birthday by bringing in cakes or sweets for their class to share. Unfortunately, with the current Covid-19 restrictions as well as a number of children who have some severe allergies, we will not be able to take these in at the moment. Thank you for understanding and for your continued support.
