Young Carer Event
At Whitehouse we continually strive to recognise and celebrate our diverse school community and find ways to support our families. From September 2024 we will be working closely with Suffolk Young Carers which will involve hosting events in school, for example, shared lunches and craft activities. A Young Carer is a child whose life is impacted by a long-term condition or disability of someone in their home, this could be a sibling or parent/carer. Whilst we work closely with our families and have many of our children already identified as Young Carers, we are not always fully aware of the individual circumstances of all of our families. If you consider your child to be a Young Carer, we would welcome the opportunity to chat with you regarding any support we can offer and to enable your child to be included in our events within school. Please contact Mrs Kate Gotts, our Pastoral Lead, via the school email: parents@whcps.org.
Awards
As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas: Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility. This will be shown in the colour coded lists below. We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements. Well done to you all.

Climate Change Workshop
Last week Year 5 took part in an exciting Climate Change Workshop. The children learned about the effects of burning fossil fuels on our planet, carbon sinks (trees) and different ways that we can help the environment through drama. It was a great day, which everyone enjoyed. The children are now very excited to learn more about climate change in their enquiry topic this term.

PE News
It was an extremely busy couple of weeks of sports fixtures at the end of last term and into this term. Please see various reports below.
IPSSA U11’s Boys Football League
Before the Easter break, the Year 5/6 Boys Football Team hosted two league matches against top of the league Heath Primary School (Thursday 14th March) and second place Britannia Primary School (Wednesday 27th March). Both teams proved to be the toughest matches so far this year. As predicted, both the opposition team played with high tempo, pressing football. However, in spite of this and in true ‘Whitehouse Way’, the boys showed real courage, hard work and perseverance during both matches. As a result, the boys also showed that they too could play attacking football, creating a number of chances and playing some excellent football. Unfortunately, both games ended in a win for our opponents. Nevertheless, Mr Jordan was extremely proud of the boy’s effort throughout both matches. Special mentions during the match against Britannia go to Max for stepping into goal at the last minute and also, to Ben for his fantastic goal from outside of the box.
Ipswich and South Suffolk Cross Country Event
On Wednesday 20th March, Mr Jordan, Mrs Jousiffe, Mrs Giles and Mr Dunnett took 36 of our Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils to the Ipswich & South Suffolk Games Cross Country event. As with previous years, the event was held in the stunning grounds of the Royal Hospital School. Having completed Mr Jordan’s Cross-Country Challenge during their PE lessons and a number of the pupils attending the after school running club, the pupils were keen to put their running skills into practice during their individual races. Despite being their first time at the event for many of the pupils, each and every one of them showed incredible determination and perseverance as every pupil completed the 1,500m (Year 4) and 2,200m (Year 5 & 6) distance of their respective races. As a result of their efforts, the team produced some fantastic results with a number of pupils finishing within the top 30 places in their races. A special mention goes to Noah, Millie, Mia, Arthur and Max for finishing their races within the top 20 places. A further massive congratulations goes to both Noah and Arthur for finishing 2nd and 3rd in their respective races, a fantastic achievement! Mr Jordan and the rest of staff could not have been prouder of each of our pupils, not only for their efforts during their races, but also the team spirit they showed as they cheered and encouraged each other over the finishing line! It was a fantastic event with an amazing group of pupils. Well done to all who took part in the event.
Ipswich and Suffolk School Games U11’s Girls Futsal Event
On Tuesday 26th March, Mr Jordan took six Year 6 girls to represent Whitehouse in the School Games U11’s Girls 5v5 Futsal Event held at Ipswich Hockey Club. Due to the popularity of the event, it was split into two leagues in which six schools played against each other. The girls’ confidence really grew with each game throughout the event and as a result, the girls showed some pleasing attacking and defending skills, along with some very good individual football skills. Mr Jordan was extremely proud of the girls’ effort and teamwork throughout each match during the day. A special mention goes to Kezia who scored two goals during the event and also received the ‘Fair Player’ award. Thank you to all the parents/carers who helped to transport the girls and stayed at the event to show their support to the team.
Y5/Y6 Girls Football
On the last day of half term, the Year 5/6 girls football team travelled to Sidegate Primary School to take part in their opening IPSSA league match of the year. Since their previous cup match the girls had been working extremely hard within the after-school club to continue to develop their football skills, and this hard work definitely showed. Both individually and as a team the girls played extremely well! As a result, the girls enjoyed lots of spells of possession, linking up together nicely to pass and dribble the ball past their opponents. The girls also showed some fantastic defensive work throughout the match, breaking up a number of Sidegate’s attacks. Despite the match ending with a win to Sidegate, the girls came off the pitch in high spirits, knowing that the result did not reflect their effort and improved performance during the match. A special mention goes to Lexi, who was chosen as our ‘Player of the Match’.
Y5/Y6 Girls Football
On Monday this week, the Year 5/6 girls football team were again back in action as they played their second league match away to the current top of the league, Dale Hall Community Primary School. Following their recent cup defeat to Dale Hall the girls knew that it was going to be a tough match. However, the girls were not deterred and took to the pitch with an increased confidence from their recent league performance. As expected Dale Hall enjoyed large spells of possession, however the girls continually closed down and tackled the ball away from their opponents throughout the game. Unfortunately, the team were missing a few players which meant that the team had to play the entire match without any subs. Despite this the girls worked extremely hard and continued to show an increase in both their confidence and football skills throughout the match. As rain began to fall, the match unfortunately finished with a win for Dale Hall. As always, Mr Jordan was extremely impressed with the effort, attitude and perseverance shown by all of the girls during the match.
A special mention goes to Ivy and Laycee who were chosen by Mr Jordan as our ‘Players of the Match’.
Y5/Y6 Girls Netball
Last Friday, Ms Salmon took 6 of our Y5/6 girls to take part in the first of many IPSSA Netball league games. The girls faced last year's league winners Broke Hall Primary. Starting very strongly Broke Hall soon took the lead and scored 6 goals in the first quarter. Our girls passed the ball up and down the court beautifully, but the wind wasn't going in our favour. Whitehouse carried on showing great perseverance despite Broke Hall's fantastic shooting. Ms Salmon was very pleased with the girl’s performance and attitude to carry on as a team. The game ended with a win for Broke Hall and they gave Player of the Match to Dunyin, which was very well deserved. Whitehouse's team consisted of Jessica, Amberley and Dunyin from year 6 and Skye, Violet and Imogen from year 5. Ms Salmon would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents/carers who transported the girls to and from the match and a massive well done to the girls for displaying the Whitehouse way throughout the entire game.
Community Polish Heritage Day

It is being held at Castle Hill Community Centre from 12.00pm to 6.00pm. It will be an event to honour the rich culture, history and contributions of the Polish community to our society. Parking
As you will be aware parking can be a challenge in the area at the beginning and start of the school day. Please see below some advice from Ipswich Borough Council together with information on how to report parking issues directly to them. We would encourage all of our parents/carers to leave the car at home where it is possible, and if bringing your car to please always park safely and to be considerate of our local residents.
Health Eating Recipe of the Week: Mini Vegetable Quiches (Light Meal)
Ingredients
4-6 large tortilla wraps
6 eggs
A little milk
A small head of broccoli
2-3 handfuls of frozen mixed vegetables
160g hard cheese, grated (e.g. cheddar)
A little vegetable oil
Heat the oven to 160C / 140C / Gas 4. Using the pastry brush apply a little vegetable oil around the inside of each of the holes in the muffin tin. Using the 12cm cutter or small plate cut 2-3 circles from each tortilla wrap. You may need to adjust the size of the circles to fit the muffin tin. Use the circles to line the 12 holes of the muffin tin, carefully pushing them into the holes to make cases. Put a selection of vegetables in each case.
Beat the eggs with a little milk and pour into each tortilla case. Fill to below the lip to avoid it boiling over in the oven and making the cases stick to the pan. Add grated cheese on top. Bake until the egg has set, around 25 minutes.
Serving Suggestion: Any of your favourite fresh or frozen vegetables can be used in this recipe – cherry tomatoes, chopped red peppers and mushrooms work well. Serve with a fresh salad. Visit this link for more healthy recipes: www.henry.org.uk
