Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 271

Friday 24th May 2024

A Message from Miss Siddall

Thank you to all the parents and carers who have visited the school for a Parent/Carer session in class – I hope you enjoyed learning alongside your child.

Over the next few weeks we will be organising the classes for the next academic year. As soon as this is arranged we will let parents/carers know. The children will have a chance to meet their new teachers at the end of June.

I hope that you all have a wonderful half-term break and can enjoy some warm weather.  Please remember that school starts back on Tuesday 4th June. Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance for the previous week:

Class with the best attendance: Chameleons and Tigers (98.75%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for the first week after half term will be: Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month: Learning more about this community.  (UNRC: Article 8: I have the right to an identity.)   Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

Staff News

This week we say goodbye to two members of staff. Mrs Whight has been with Whitehouse for almost 25 years in a variety of class based and admin positions and we will be very sad to see her go.  However, she won’t be far away as she has secured a full-time position working for the CET Trust.  Also leaving us this week is Miss Fiddaman who has worked as one of Lunchtime Supervisors as well as helping out in our Nursery.  We wish you both good luck in your new endeavours and thank you both for all your hard work at Whitehouse.

Healthy Eating Workshop

Last week some parents/carers joined us for a cooking experience with Lunchtime (our school dinner provider).  The group were shown how to make their own tomato-based sauce for pizza and pasta, then proceeded to make tasty pizzas to take home and enjoy.  They also learnt how to make fruit muesli bars and were given lots of tips and ideas for cooking on a budget.  Everyone had a great time and enjoyed their pizzas!

Awards

As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas:  Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility.  This will be shown in the colour coded lists below.  We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements.  Well done to you all.

Celebrating our School Community

As always, we love to share the wonderful achievements of our children and staff.  This week we celebrate Millie in Year 4.  Millie had her football presentation at the end of the season and was awarded Supporters Player for the second year in a row!  She was very excited as her medal was presented by two of the Ipswich Women’s team, Kyra Robertson and Maria Boswell.  Keeping with a football theme, we also celebrate a member of our staff Miss Huggins, who plays for a local team as a goalkeeper.  This week she played in the Suffolk Women’s Football County Cup final at Portman Road.  There were 25 teams in the competition so to reach the final was an amazing achievement. Unfortunately, the final score did not go their way but the team were still very pleased as they were four divisions lower than the other team!  Well done Millie and Miss Huggins, you have done wonderfully well.

Summer Fair

We are very pleased to have our popular Summer Fair again this year, which will take place on Friday 5th July 2024.  Miss Salmon will again be working with the PFA (Parents and Friends Association) to plan the event. There will a short meeting for members of the PFA and anyone else who would like to come along and help out at the event on Wednesday 5th June 2024, straight after school.  Please come to the office once you have collected your children.  We really hope lots of members of our school community come along and get involved.  The more the merrier!  Hope to see you there, all are welcome!

Year 4: Parent/Carer Sewing Session

Our Year 4 children have been busy making felt animal plushies of their choice this half term, inspired by the Amazon rainforest. They each designed their animal linked to the rainforest and used their designs to make a prototype on paper.  Next, they practised threading a needle and investigated how to join all the felt bits together.  We were very impressed with their resilience (and grateful for the parents/carers support) when threading the needle and sewing using a running stitch.  All of the children really enjoyed having an afternoon designing, marking, measuring, cutting, joining and finishing their felt plushie.  A big thank you to all those parents and carers who were able to come and join us.

Lunchtime Co

A big well done to our Kitchen Staff this week, led by our Head of Kitchen Mrs Bradshaw.  We are thrilled to see they have been recognised by Lunchtime Co as ‘Lunchtime Superstars’ this week and rewarded with chocolate and flowers.  We are all very grateful for all their hard work in ensuring everyone is fed and happy every day!

Year 5/6 Girls Netball

On Monday the Year 5/6 girl’s netball team were back in action, this time at home to Sidegate Primary School.  Going into the match the girls were already nervously feeling the pressure as we know that Sidegate have some very good players.  We did not get off to a good start as Sidegate took the lead in the first quarter.  After a team chat before the second quarter Whitehouse began passing the ball beautifully up and down the court, but every time a shot was close Sidegate would intercept.  At half time Sidegate were still leading but this did not stop our girls showing perseverance and determination to get back into the game.  Sadly, Whitehouse were unable to catch up but Ms Salmon was extremely impressed with the performance and effort of each of the girls: Ivy, Skye, Imogen, Violet, Kyla, Dunyin and Maddison.  A special well done to Skye for getting player of the match.

Early Notice

Please note we have had confirmation that the School Immunisation Team will be in school on Friday 15th November 2024 to do the flu vaccinations this year, for all year groups.  More details to follow.

Year 1: Fruit Salads

Last week Year 1 designed, created and evaluated their own fruit salads.  They tried lots of different fruits before choosing which to use in their final product.  They showed excellent perseverance and concentration when chopping, peeling, and mixing the fruit.  It was very exciting and the children really enjoyed tasting their own fruit salads they had designed.  Some of them even commented on how they could improve their fruit salads if they made them again.  Well done to all of Year 1.

Healthy Eating Recipe: Tuna and Sweetcorn Pasta

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 120g dried pasta, boiled until tender
  • 4 tablespoons sweetcorn canned in water
  • 1 can of tuna in brine, drained
  • 2 tablespoons medium fat soft cheese

Boil the pasta following the instructions on the packet.

When cooked, drain the pasta and immediately toss it with all the other ingredients until well mixed.

Serving suggestions:  Try other vegetables instead of sweetcorn.
