Home School Links Newsletter

Friday 22nd January 2021

Message from Mrs Hall

It has been lovely to hear from so many of our families this week during our remote learning reviews and to see how hard the children have been working from home on a variety of great activities. They were all so excited to share their super work with the teachers. We have been most impressed with the work completed, so please keep uploading everything to Google Classroom, Tapestry or send them to school.  We would really like to include more photos of the children demonstrating the ‘Whitehouse Way’ at home in next week’s newsletter, so please send your photos to parents@whcps.org for us to include. Finally, thank you for all your lovely messages of support too. It makes such a difference to the staff to hear that all their efforts, both online and in school, are so appreciated. Stay positive.

Reading Awards

We have had some more children this week who have been super busy reading and earned the following awards:

Ready Reader

Mason

Independent Reader

Finley

Super Reader

Kyle

Classic Reader

Imogen

Imogen just needs one more Classic Reader and she will have gained her Book Token prize.  Keep up the good work everyone!

Please note if you need some assistance with using myON which enables the children to access books to read online, we have added a Parent’s Guide to the useful resources section on our website on the following page: https://www.whcps.org/blended-learning-at-whitehouse/

Hot Dinners

From Monday we are now able to offer hot school dinners for those children who are attending school (children of critical workers and vulnerable children).  Please note the menu for next week is detailed below:

Monday: Pizza with Wedges or Tomato and Veg Pasta with Peas and Carrots

Tuesday: Sausage and Mash or Quorn Sausage and Mash with Green Beans and Carrots

Wednesday: Burger in a Bun or Bean Burger with Diced Potatoes, Peas and Sweetcorn

Thursday: Roast Turkey or Quorn Roast with Roast Potatoes and Mixed Veg

Friday: Fish Fillet or Quorn Hotdog with Potato Wedges and Baked Beans

Booking a school place in the Critical Worker and Vulnerable Child Bubbles

Please note all spaces for critical workers need to be booked on a weekly basis.  Please send an email to parents@whcps.org by 3pm each Thursday to book spaces for the following week, we will then confirm the space on Friday.  If your child is attending school as a vulnerable child, this space will be kept for them and there is no need to book each week.  Please be aware that any space booked for your child will be for the full week (Monday to Friday) even if you choose not to send them in. This is to minimise the number of contacts children have and to work within our risk assessment.  If your child will not be attending on a particular day, please email the office on parents@whcps.org as soon as possible to confirm they will be absent.  Thank you for your assistance.  If you have any questions, please contact the office team on 01473 741249.

Mr Jordan’s PE Challenge

It has been amazing to see so many videos and photos of our pupils engaging in this week’s Toilet Roll Keepie Uppie PE Challenge.  It definitely looked like everyone had a lot of fun trying!  Mr Jordan will be setting further challenges in the weeks to come. A reminder that as well as being sent to children via Google Classroom and Tapestry, the PE challenges can be seen on the school website at the following link: https://www.whcps.org/mr-jordans-pe-challenges/.  We would really love to feature pupils’ efforts with the challenges on the school website, so please share videos with us by sending them to parents@whcps.org.

Parent Governor Vacancy

Our Governing Body are a very important part of our school. Their key responsibilities include, overseeing the financial performance of the school (making sure its money is well spent), holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. If you would like to have a say in whole school matters, we currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor, which is a wonderful opportunity for parents/carers to come on board and support all children at Whitehouse.   If you would be interested in taking up this opportunity or would like to find out more about the role, please contact the school office on 01473 741249 and we can arrange for you to have an informal chat with Martin Parker, our Chair of Governors. Thank you for your interest.

Don’t forget!

As well as Google Classroom and Tapestry we have a number of other learning platforms that the children are able to use to support their learning. Please remember to log in to these resources as teachers are setting fun activities on these platforms as well. Every child has been provided with a username and password for these websites and these can be found in their reading journals. If you cannot access these websites, please contact the school for support.
