Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 164

The Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin

17th September 2021

Message from Mrs Hall

It has been a super week in school and I have been very impressed with how well the children have settled back into the routine. I have been delighted to award a number of headteacher stickers for outstanding work and excellent behaviour this week, which reinforces how well the children are embracing the Whitehouse Way. We completed the first fire drill yesterday and I am proud to report that the behaviour of all the children was impeccable throughout enabling the safe evacuation of all 565 children and 100 staff. Finally, with the safety measures we have put in place, it is wonderful that we can now hold assemblies in the school hall so that we can continue to share important messages. The children are demonstrating a keen interest to find out more about their rights as we reinforce the principles of a Rights Respecting School.

Attendance for the Previous Week

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be: International Day of Sign Language: Do you need to be able to talk to have a voice? (UNRC Link: Article 23: If I am disabled mentally or physically I have the right to special care and education to help me develop and lead a full life). Resources related to this assembly will soon be available on our website.  To access them, simply go to Learning and click on our Enquiry Based Assemblies.

School Photos

Unfortunately, due to staff absences at the company we use for school photographs, there has been a slight change to the dates of our school photos next week.  Please note Key Stage 2 children (Years 3-6) will have their photos taken on Monday 20th September.  Our EYFS and Key Stage 1 children (Nursery, Reception and Years 1-2) will have their photos taken on Tuesday 21st September.  Please send your child to school in the correct school uniform. If your child is due to do PE on that day please note thy should wear school uniform  instead of their PE kit.

Behaviour on Site

Can we please remind parents/carers that we do not accept swearing on site when dropping off or picking up your children.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Purple Man Reading Competition

Well done to Hedgehogs (LKS2) and Chameleons (UKS2) classes who won the Purple Man Reading Competition last week.

Reading Recommendations

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging your child to read.  The children in KS2 have got off to an excellent start with their reading and quizzing and the first Purple Man book prize award was very close!  To help to encourage the children to widen their book choices, each KS2 teacher will be recommending a different book each fortnight.  This will help your child to read a range of different types of books and therefore help them to develop their vocabulary and knowledge of the world.  There will be rewards for any children who read and quiz on these books.  This week’s recommendations are:

Year 3: Badgers

The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson

Year 3: Foxes

Year 4 Sutton Hoo Visit

Our Year 4 children had a wonderful day out at Sutton Hoo last Friday.  They explored the Royal Burial Ground where the ship was found along with the many treasures.  They became archaeologists themselves, and dug for their own treasures whilst learning about coordinates as well as touring the exhibition hall to find out more about Anglo Saxon life. The children now have a wealth of knowledge to enhance their learning back in school which will enable them to answer the question ‘Who were the Anglo Saxons?’  Well done Year 4!

Exciting News: New Parent App

Did you see that we have introduced a new parent app this week?  Have you signed up yet? Since moving to academisation we are using a different system to hold all our pupil data and the new app offers much more to our parents/carers also.  The app will allow you to update your contact details, check dinner money balances and top up your account and even check on your child’s attendance.  Have a look at the link to get some more details: https://www.whcps.org/arbor-parent-app/.

If you have not received a welcome email, please message the school office on parents@whcps.org as it might be that we do not have your correct email address.
