Dear Year 3 Parents/Carer,
Now that your child is in Year 3, they will have developed their understanding of phonics and many children will be ready to read books more independently. In Key Stage Two, many children will be able to visit the library and choose books independently. We use a system called ‘Accelerated Reader’, or ‘AR’ to Accelerated Reader as it helps children to enjoy reading by matching them with appropriate books and monitoring their progress through quizzes and reports. Benefits include encouraging reading by allowing choice, increasing reading stamina and confidence through goal setting and tracking, and providing teachers with data to guide instruction and identify struggling readers.
We would like to invite you in for a reading session to show you how this works in school and share some of the wonderful books that we will be reading this term. This session will run alongside our ‘meet the teacher’ session, where you will have a chance to meet your child’s new teacher and see their classroom.
Please join us on Monday 15th September at 2:30pm in your child’s classroom. Please enter via the Waterford Road gates.
Please note that for Safeguarding reasons you will not be allowed to use your mobile phone whilst you are on the school site.
