23-03-2026 Year 2 Shimpling Farm

Friday 20th March 2026

Year 2 – Shimpling Farm

Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 2 have planned a visit to Shimpling Farm in line with our enquiry question next term ‘Where does my food come from?’. This trip is to a working farm and we will be learning specifically about bread and how it is made. Each class will be visiting on separate days as follows:

Cobras – Wednesday 22nd April

Dragons – Thursday 23rd April

Frogs – Monday 27th April

We will be leaving school at 9:15am so children will need to arrive at their usual class entrance, promptly at 8:45am. We will be leaving the venue at 2pm, to arrive back to school before the end of the day.

For this visit your child will need to wear warm clothes which must include a long sleeved top and jogging bottoms (as short sleeved T-shirts and shorts will not be suitable for the farm visit). The children can wear their usual shoes or trainers to school but will need to bring a pair of boots in a bag to change into at the farm. Wellies or washable footwear are needed as there is a foot dip that we will use at the farm. We will be outside for most of the visit so your child will need to be prepared, especially for potential wet weather! Please bring a waterproof coat.

All children will require a packed lunch (no glass bottles, sweets or fizzy drinks please). All children in KS1 are entitled to a meal provided under the Universal Free School Meal funding therefore if you would like your child to be provided with a free school packed lunch please indicate on the attached form.

The cost per child is a voluntary contribution of £12 which covers the cost of coach travel and an educational workshop. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience geography and science in their local area. Please note consent and payment can be made via Arbor or alternatively please complete the attached form and return to the office with your child’s name and Shimpling Farm written clearly on the envelope.

At Whitehouse, we value educational visits as they enhance learning and provide first-hand experiences. This trip forms part of the curriculum, and we expect all children to attend. If you have any concerns, please contact us to discuss these.

Payments can be made either via the school office or on Arbor.  Please return the enclosed consent form and indicate whether you would like the school to provide a packed lunch for your child by Friday 27th March 2026.

If you have any questions about the trip please feel free to ask.

Thank you for your continued support.
