06-02-2026 Year 3 Roman Experience Day

5th February 2026

Year 3 – Colchester Roman Experience Day

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are writing to inform you about an exciting trip we have organised for our Year 3 children in line with their Spring 2 Enquiry topic ‘Who were the Romans and how did they affect life in Britain?’. We will be heading to Colchester, Britain’s first Roman city where children will experience a walking tour around the city to see Roman remains and clues about Roman life.  The day will also include a visit to the Roman Circus, a centre dedicated to the chariot racing stadium.

The trip is planned for 11th March 2026. We will leave school at 9:00am and return by the end of the school day. With this in mind, children will need to arrive promptly at 8.40am on the day of the trip. Your child will require a packed lunch, drink (no glass bottles, sweets or fizzy drinks please) and a snack. Please indicate on the attached permission form if you wish to order a lunch from the kitchen.

We would like to encourage your child to wear sensible footwear, as we will be outside for most of the day. If the weather is cold, please make sure that your child wears a layer underneath their clothes and a waterproof coat.

The cost of the trip is a voluntary contribution of £12, which covers coach travel and visitor centre entry. No child will be excluded if parents are unable to contribute; however, contributions help us continue to offer valuable learning experiences. Any amount you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated.

At Whitehouse, we value educational visits as they enhance learning and provide first-hand experiences. This trip forms part of the curriculum, and we expect all children to attend. If you have any concerns, please contact us to discuss these.

Payments can be made either via the school office or on Arbor.  Please return the enclosed consent form by Friday 13th February 2026.

If you have any questions about the trip, please ask your child’s class teacher.

Thank you for your continued support.
