Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 313

Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 313

Friday 20th June 2025

A Message from Miss Siddall:

There are only four weeks until the end of the term but we are still expecting the children to continue working hard in all of their lessons; we still have lots to cover on the summer curriculum, and all the children will have an opportunity to meet their new teachers on Wednesday and Thursday next week so attendance at school remains crucial.   We also have a wonderful SMSC day to look forward to on Friday as well as trips for Y3, Y5 and Y6.

Attendance for the previous week:

Class with the best attendance: Seahorses (100%)

Assemblies

The theme of our assemblies for next week will be Young Carers: What is a young carer and what do they do?  (UNRC: Article 25: I have the right to have my living arrangements checked regularly if I have to be looked after away from home).  Maybe this week you could talk about all the things you are grateful for and think of something kind you could do for someone who has a disability or is not very well at the moment.

Staff Changes

We are sad to let you know that we will be saying goodbye to six of our teachers at the end of this term.  Mr Fox and Miss Jaspal will leave us because they are both relocating.   Miss Tempest and Mr Ellis will leave us because they are moving on to new opportunities working with SEND children.  Mr Donowa will be going on secondment to Combs Ford next year to support them with reading and Mrs Cox will be staying at Abbot’s Hall rather than returning to Whitehouse at the end of her secondment. I would like to thank all of these teachers for their hard work and for all they have done for our school and our children.

However, I am excited for us to be able to welcome several new teachers to the team in September:  Miss Philippe, Miss Rees, Miss Daly, Miss Soames, Miss Smart and Miss Newton will all be visiting in the coming weeks to get to know their classes ahead of the new term in September.

Please look out for the upcoming letter which will tell you which class your child will be in next year and who their teachers and teaching assistant will be.

Summer Fair

A reminder that our Summer Fair is coming up on Friday 4th July, directly after school.  Please put the note in your diary, it would be lovely to see as many of you as possible come along!

Awards

As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas:  Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility.  This is shown in the colour coded lists below. We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements.  Well done to you all.

Year 1: Felixstowe Visit

On Monday, Year 1 went on a very sunny trip to Felixstowe as part of their History unit: ‘Why do we love the seaside?’. The adventure began near Landguard Fort and the container port. The group then made their way through the nature reserve and really enjoyed a wildflower hunt which related to their new Science unit about plants.  After a long walk, everyone had earned a rest in the beautiful sunshine to enjoy their packed lunches. But the children didn't sit down for long, as it was time to explore the fantastic Martello play park as well as the beach!  Sandwich bags in hand, the children searched for pretty shells and tried to make sandcastles, but the beach was very pebbly so this proved to be quite tricky.

Year 1 made us all very proud with the way they represented the school, showing outstanding behaviour and respect to the other beach goers.  Well done Year 1.

Celebrating our Staff

This week we are pleased to celebrate three of our staff members who took part in the Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5K Fun Run. Cancer is close to many people’s hearts so it was great to see our wonderful staff supporting such a good cause, whilst having a very fun day!  Well done to Miss Last, Mr Parr and Miss Pottyondy, what a great job!

🌞  Hot Weather, Cool Heads and Great Attendance 🌞

As the summer sun shines bright, we’ve noticed a few more children staying home with headaches – often caused by the heat.  While we absolutely want our pupils to stay safe and well, a few simple steps can help keep everyone cool, comfortable and in class!

✅ Top Tips for Beating the Heat

  • Pack a refillable water bottle – hydration is key!
  • Wear lightweight, cool clothing and a sun hat.
  • Apply suncream before school, and don’t forget you can bring some into school for a top-up. You will just need to complete the form and pass both that and the suncream to the office.
  • Encourage a good night’s sleep with a fan or open window (where safe).

We are proud of our children’s efforts to be in school every day – it makes such a difference to their learning, friendships, and routines.  Let’s keep those attendance stars shining, even in the sunshine!

If your child does feel unwell, we’re always happy to chat and help you decide if a school day is still possible.

Whitehouse Play Zones: Lunchtime Provision

We are very excited this week to have introduced our new Whitehouse Play Zones to children in Key Stage 2. Thanks to all our parents/carers who nominated us on their Asda Cashpot, we received £854.96 which has enabled us to purchase a large number of resources for the children to use at lunchtime.  The KS2 play areas have now been split into various zones, each offering a different activity the children can enjoy at lunchtime.  The zones include, table tennis, dress up, gym trail, basketball, reading, music, running games and quiet games.  The photos below are from the quiet zone area where there are lots of games available. Play Zones for KS1 are coming soon too!

After School Club – PE Kit Reminder

A reminder to all parents/carers that pupils attending an after-school sports club, will need to attend their club in their WHCPS PE kit. As with PE days, your child should therefore come into school on club days (sports clubs) in their PE kit. Please note that this also includes no jewellery to be worn during sports clubs.

Sports Day 2025

“Another successful Sports Day Mr Jordan…It was fantastic thank you!” Year 4 Parent.

Last week saw the return of our eagerly awaited and arguably favourite whole school sporting event, as our pupils (Nursery – Year 6) represented their ‘Houses’ and competed against their peers in our annual Sports Days. As with previous years, and with the help of our fantastic Sports Leaders, Mr Jordan organised and conducted 8 individual sports day sessions over three days. During each session pupils from each year group put their hard work and the skills learnt in their recent Athletics units of work in PE into practice as each class rotated around six different athletic-based activities. Within each class the pupils were grouped into their ‘Houses’ and competed against their peers from the other houses to try to gain as many points for their house as possible.

To celebrate the pupils representing their houses, each Sports Day session began with an Olympic style opening ceremony with parents/carers and family members lining the playground to cheer and clap as each class was introduced and welcomed onto the KS2 field. It was amazing to see the amount of effort each class, and a number of our parents/carers, had gone to produce banners, signs and flags to celebrate the ‘Houses’ the pupils would be representing during their session.

Despite the sweltering conditions, all of the pupils’ put in 100% effort and demonstrated ‘The Whitehouse Way’ throughout each sports day session. The enthusiasm and healthy competition shown by each of the pupils was fantastic.  It was also amazing to see so many parent/carers and family members in attendance, enjoying the events and cheering the pupils on. Mr Jordan would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our pupils, staff, Sports Leaders and particularly parents/carers and family members for helping to make this year’s sports day yet another huge success!

The scores from each of the individual year groups sport day sessions and the overall results have been counted and verified! As a result, we can reveal the results, and winning ‘House’ from this year’s sports day is as follows:

KS2 Tennis Panathlon Event

On Monday Mr Jordan took seven of our KS2 pupils to take part in the U11 Mixed Tennis Panathlon event which took place at Ipswich School Sports Centre. After the cancellation of last year’s event due to poor weather, the pupils were really excited to again have the opportunity to represent our school in this year’s event. During the event each team rotated around a carousel of fun and inclusive tennis-based skills in which each pupil aimed to score as many points as possible for their team. The team had lots of fun completing each of the activities and showed fantastic teamwork as they cheered and encouraged each other as they took their turns to complete each of the activities. At the end of the event the scores from each of the activities were added together to give each team an overall score. As a result of their hard work and perseverance the team were extremely excited to be presented with a trophy and gold medals for finishing the event as the overall winners! An amazing and well-deserved achievement, well done!

Paralympic Week 2025

This week, as part of National School Sports Week, our pupils have enjoyed taking part in our annual Paralympic Week. During their PE lessons this week pupils have been learning about and participating in a number of Paralympic inspired and inclusive activities such as Boccia, New Aged Kurling, Archery, Goalball and Seated Volleyball. During this week Mr Jordan has delivered assemblies to introduce both National School Sports Week and our Paralympic Week. During the assemblies Mr Jordan discussed the history and values of the Paralympic Games, linking these values to our own school values (‘The Whitehouse Ways’ and Golden Rules).  The aim of our annual Paralympic week is not only to provide pupils with the opportunity to experience different activities within their PE lessons, but also to provide them with a greater appreciation of the skill level required by the Paralympic athletes to successfully perform their events. Additionally, it also provides pupils with the underlying message that with hard work, determination, perseverance and courage we are able to overcome our barriers and challenges to achieve our very best.

Forest School: Biodiversity

As you will have noticed the forest area in school has been expanded and we have purchased lots of items we are gradually adding to improve the biodiversity and increase the nature we welcome on site.  On Wednesday this week some of our children were doing a litter pick with Mrs Vince in the forest area and they found a little visitor!  Sadly, he had got caught up in a piece of camouflage netting and so Mrs Vince and Mr Lay came to his rescue.  He was quickly freed and after having a drink of cold water, he wandered off to hide away in his new home!  We look forward to seeing who else might come to visit.
