Whitehouse Weekly Bulletin 327

Friday 7th November 2025

A Message from Miss Siddall:  It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school after the half-term break. Trips and visits are an integral part of our curriculum at Whitehouse Community Primary School, helping to bring learning to life and create memorable experiences for our pupils.  This term, Year 4 have already enjoyed a fantastic day at West Stow, and we’re looking forward to upcoming visits for Year 6 (Bletchley Park), Years 2 and 4 (St Thomas’s Church), and Year 3 (The Stone Age).  To help these visits run smoothly, please ensure permission slips and lunch notifications are returned to the office promptly.  Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Scholastic Book Fair

Don’t forget we have one further day you can attend the Scholastic Book Fair on Monday 10th November from 3.00pm to 4.00pm in the Marlow Hall.   It features a fantastic range of titles for you to choose from including a good selection of budget-priced books for below £5.

As an added bonus, every child attending one of our after-school Book Fairs will have the opportunity to enter our free prize draw with a chance of winning a book chosen by one of our Prefects.  There is also a separate free to enter competition with the chance of winning a new book for your child's class book corner.

Parents/Carers can pay for books whilst they are at the Fair in cash or via the online payment platform. Please note that in order to pay online, you will need to bring your mobile phone and physical payment card along to the Book Fair. You can access the online payment platform by scanning the QR code on display at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing you!

Awards

As you may be aware, the children are encouraged to follow ‘The Whitehouse Way’ in school to help them in their learning and in becoming good citizens. Our ‘Wonderful Week’ awards this year will be given as a recognition that the children have worked very hard in one of these areas:  Courage, Perseverance, Reflection or Responsibility.  This will be shown in the colour coded lists below. We are so proud of our children at Whitehouse and their wonderful achievements.  Well done to you all.

After School Library Sessions

Did you know that if your child is in Reception or Year 1 you can come along into school with your child after you have picked them up each Thursday and visit our library, where your child can choose a new library book and you can sit and share a story or two together?

If you are interested, please come to the small wooden gate next to the main office and enter school through our meeting room, where Mrs Balaam, our Librarian will meet you.  She is on hand throughout the session to help you choose a new book if you need her.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Celebrating our children

We are pleased this week to share the wonderful achievements of Scarlett from Year 6.  Scarlett has been dancing for several years and this year has been working very hard in her ballroom and Latin dancing in which she qualified for the National Grand Finals held in Blackpool over the weekend.  It was an extremely busy day with non-stop dancing and rounds.  We are thrilled to share that Scarlett earned an impressive 6th place in both her ballroom pre-bronze foxtrot and tango, as well as in the later pre-bronze Cha-Cha and Samba.  Scarlett and he partner also advanced to the final in their couple’s event, dancing the quickstep.

These are wonderful achievements and we are very proud of you!  She was very pleased with her results and is now back to training to prepare for next year’s nationals.  Well done Scarlett.

We are very pleased to announce the winners of the Autumn 1 Project Showcase below.  As you can see from just the few photos below, we had some wonderful work completed by the children in every class.

Year 4 West Stow Trip

On Monday, our Year 4 pupils enjoyed an exciting trip to the Anglo-Saxon village at West Stow as part of their enquiry topic, ‘Who were the Anglo-Saxons?’  During the visit, they explored the reconstructed village, stepping inside the various buildings to explore and discover how each one was used. The children also took part in an engaging talk and Q&A session with an expert, deepening their understanding of Anglo-Saxon life.  In the museum, they had the chance to explore cases full of both genuine and replica artefacts. They completed an ‘artefact hunt’ where they had to find, draw and write about certain artefacts. Some even dressed up as Anglo-Saxons! It was a fantastic day full of learning and fun. The children behaved beautifully throughout and the staff were extremely proud of them all. Well done Year 4!

Children in Need

To celebrate Children in Need next week please note on Friday we will be having some special desserts on offer as part of the lunch menu.  Please note this will not be a non-uniform day but we will be collecting money and having a non-uniform day for Comic Relief instead later in the year.

Wellbeing

Did you know that levels of Type 1 Diabetes are becoming more common amongst children?  Please note the symptoms below and if you have any concerns about your child, please speak with a medical professional.
