Early closing Friday 26th June 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Due to the forecast of extreme heat, we have made the decision to close the school early from 12:00pm tomorrow to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff.
Our building is able to remain cool enough during the morning, but as temperatures continue to rise throughout the day, it becomes increasingly challenging to maintain comfortable conditions, especially with many children in classrooms. By closing at midday, children will be able to spend the afternoon in spaces with fewer people, which should help prevent temperatures rising further.
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school tomorrow so they can stay hydrated throughout the morning.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as well as pupils eligible for Free School Meals in any year group, will be provided with a packed lunch. These lunches will be sent home with your child at the end of the morning session.
Teachers will provide activities for children to complete at home in the afternoon. These will be sent home with pupils.
All children should be collected from their usual classrooms at 12:00pm. However, if you have a child in Year 5 or Year 6 and would like them to walk home alone at 12:00pm, you must contact the school office by email (parents@whcps.org) or phone (01473 741249) to give permission. Without this consent, your child must be collected in person from their usual classroom.
Please make arrangements to collect your child at 12:00pm tomorrow, or contact us if your Year 5 or Year 6 child will be walking home alone. If a different adult from usual will collect your child, please let us know in advance. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we take steps to keep everyone safe during the extreme heat.
