THE WINTER MINI READING CHALLENGE
The Reading Agency who bring us the Summer Reading Challenge are now running a Winter Mini Reading Challenge. This encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter holidays with a free-to-access website featuring rewards and incentives for reading and reviewing books.
The Winter Mini Reading Challenge starts on Tuesday 1st December 2020 and finishes on Friday 15th January 2021.
To take part children simply read three or more books-these can be any books from their choice. Every time they finish a book they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review.
Reaching their online goal will unlock a virtual badge and a special Everyone is a Hero certificate which they can print off and keep.
There will also be a whole host of fun activities, videos and reading recommendations, plus an exciting competition.
Children can visit the website by clicking on the link from the 1st December. https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
In our Key Stage Two Library we like to have book reviews, where children can post their opinions on books they have read. This is really helpful for other children to then decide whether or not they want to read a particular book. It gives them an idea of what a book is about and whether or not it is the right book for them. But this is not limited to KS2 and it would be lovely to have some from our Key Stage 1 children for their library.
Whether you have been reading books from school, home books or books online with MyOn and Oxford Owl we would like all children to have a go at writing a review. Below are some templates which you can download and fill in, or use as an idea to create your own.
